Job Summary
Under the supervision of the school site Principal or designee, supervises cafeteria, playground, and other areas as assigned, with attention to the health, safety, and conduct of students.
• Ability to relate and work well with children
• Ability to organize play activities with minimum supervision
• Ability to establish warm and friendly relationships with students and staff
Job Description / Essential Elements:
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of the school site Principal or designee, supervises cafeteria, playground, and other areas as assigned, with attention to the health, safety, and conduct of students.
  • Help organize and supervise noon play activities.
  • Maintains a firm but respectful and courteous attitude toward students.
  • Reports all faulty playground equipment to the school office.
  • Handles and appropriately refers to any accidents involving students.
  • Encourages children to observe fundamental courtesies, practice good eating habits, leave immediate eating areas neat and clean, and be orderly in going to and from eating areas.
  • Assists children to observe all school safety rules, participate in wholesome recreational play activities, observe all rules of games, and learn to play with others in a social group.
  • Exercises no supervision over other employees; no corporal punishment may be administered by Yard Duty Supervisors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Job Functions
  • See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment.
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects up to 80 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.

Work Conditions
Employees in this position will be required to work indoors in a cafeteria environment and/or outside on the playground or blacktop areas. May also be assigned to supervise students in a classroom setting.
