ABOUT
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Ya-A-Te student staff serve as student leaders who serve as guides, mentors, and positive role models during a three-day off-campus retreat designed for incoming and returning students. Ya-A-Te student staff plays a critical role in facilitating small group activities, encouraging student engagement, and helping students transition to college life.
This is a part-time position and can work up to 18 hours per week.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
  • Facilitate discussions and team-building activities with a group of 10-20 students.
  • Serve as a mentor and peer resource, offering encouragement and guidance to students throughout the retreat.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes connection, involvement, and school spirit.
  • Serve as a coach during tribal games and lead a team of 30 - 50 students.
  • Assist with coordination of large- and small-group programming, games, and other retreat activities.
  • Adhere to safety and emergency guidelines while maintaining professionalism and a safe environment for attendees.
  • Work closely with other student leaders, professional staff, and campus partners to ensure a smooth and impactful retreat experience.
  • Demonstrate positive behavior, responsibility, and enthusiasm at all times.
  • Attend all required training sessions in preparation for the retreat.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Student Life staff.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Individual Contributor
Work Environment: Work may be required outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends. Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors
Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds
Travel Required:
If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Experience
  • Must be a current student or recent graduate of TJC in good academic and conduct standing;
  • Must be available for all training and retreat dates.

RETIREMENT
Part-Time Retirement

Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company. The plan will provide you and your beneficiary with fully vested cash settlement or income benefits after termination of employment for any reason.

Employees may utilize the Vaughn Library and Learning Resource Center.
Fitness Facility Use
Employee and immediate family use of the Apache Recreation Center - an indoor weight and exercise center, 18-hole disc golf course, covered basketball course, and outdoor ping-pong table and cornhole. The cost is $5 per ID.
