Job description

This position concentrates on providing English/Writing tutoring services to students in the tutoring centers at the Marion (Grant County) Campus. This position will work with student population by providing face-to-face tutoring services.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Tutor students enrolled in Ivy Tech's English courses in one-on-one or in small groups following the established protocol in the Writing Center.
  • Complete a summary report for each student upon completion of a session.
  • Work with faculty when necessary to ensure best possible outcomes for students.
  • Sustain high quality customer service while facilitating back-to-back tutoring sessions
  • Apply advanced problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve student questions and inquiries.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams-including faculty-utilizing transparent and empathetic communication to help elevate departmental services and contribute to team initiatives.
  • Recommend and share professional development resources focused on teaching or tutoring English Language Learners, contributing to the Writing Center's growing professional development archive.
  • Maintain an understanding of pedagogical trends and apply relevant skills in support of student success.

HOURLY RATE: $17.00/hr

WEEKLY HOURS: 15-20 hours per wek

The above listed functions require various degrees of independence, judgment and discretion, and the ability to be mobile in the office and/or work area.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or documented proficiency in subject matter
  • Experience in tutoring with adult learners and a diverse population
  • Knowledge of college tutoring process.
  • Over two (2) years of related experience in a computerized work environment.
