Job description

  • Expected pay for this position is $16.87-$22.78. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. 
  • MDH Benefits package includes:

  • Job Summary
    • Prepares simple and routine food dishes and performs a variety of tasks in the preparation and cooking of soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs for patient and employee consumption. Responsible for food preparation for noon meal service. Cleaning duties are assigned specific to job title. Performs other assignments as required.
  • Job Specifications
    • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be high school graduate, although experience in hospital, institution or restaurant cooking may take precedence. Required to have State of IL Food Handler certification or be able to obtain within 60 days of hire. State of IL Food Protection Manager certification preferred.

    • JOB KNOWLEDGE: Specialization in institutional cooking is desirable, but on-the-job training is provided. HACCP practices.

    • ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS:
      • Ability to read, speak, write and follow written and oral instructions and recipes.
      • Able to communicate effectively with food service personnel and other customers.
      • Manual dexterity and motor coordination are necessary for efficient use of time, motion, and equipment.
      • Perception and color discrimination required to evaluate appearance of food.
      • Interest in learning new techniques for food preparation and service.
      • Interest in continual improvement in job routine.
      • Willing to work in a team concept environment.
      • Service attitude is an expectation.
      • Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
