Job description

The Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily field operations involving excavation, grading, site servicing, underground utilities, pipe installation, backfilling, and general earthworks. This position leads crews and equipment operators while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, accurately, and according to project plans and specifications. Must be able to operate equipment and train employees in all aspects of site grading and utility install.Key ResponsibilitiesSupervise and coordinate daily earthworks and underground utility crews.Organize manpower, equipment, materials, and daily work activities.Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, grades, elevations, and utility layouts.Oversee excavation, trenching, grading, stripping, backfilling, compaction, and site preparation.Supervise installation of storm, sanitary, watermain, and other underground utility systems.Ensure proper pipe grades, elevations, alignment, bedding, and connections.Coordinate excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and other heavy equipment.Work closely with surveyors to maintain required grades, elevations and line.Operate equipment such as Loaders, Excavators, Dozers, Off Road Trucks, RollersTrain, direct, and mentor crew members and equipment operators.Qualifications and SkillsPrevious experience as a Foreman in civil construction, earthworks, or underground utilities.Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, drainage, and underground utility installation.Ability to read construction drawings and understand grades and elevations.Experience operating around heavy equipment and coordinating multiple crews.Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.Valid driver's licence. Preferred ExperienceExperience with municipal infrastructure, subdivision construction, road building, or site development.Experience with watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and underground servicing.Familiarity with GPS machine control and laser/survey equipment.Experience working with inspectors, surveyors, engineers, and project management teams.Position RequirementsThe successful candidate must be a experienced hands-on leader who can manage crews, equipment, and daily production while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. Strong organizational skills and practical field experience are essential.
