 Accounting Manager-Payroll and Benefits

This Accounting Manager oversees the organization's end-to-end payroll processing and benefits administration. Responsibilities include

managing multi-state payrolls, reconciling benefits accounts, overseeing tax filings (like Form 941 and W-2s), and collaborating with Human Resources to maintain compliance and seamless system integrations

Responsibilities

  • Payroll Processing: Supervise and verify the accurate processing of bi-weekly or semi-monthly payrolls, ensuring taxes, garnishments, and deductions are calculated correctly.
  • Benefits Administration: Manage the financial reconciliation of employee benefits, including medical, dental, 401(k), and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).
  • Compliance & Auditing: Maintain strict adherence to federal and state tax laws, FLSA guidelines, and ERISA regulations.
  • General Ledger Reconciliation: Prepare and post payroll and benefits-related journal entries, accruals, and maintain balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Vendor Management: Act as the primary financial liaison with payroll providers (e.g., ADP, Workday) and benefits brokers or third-party administrators to resolve discrepancies and negotiate renewals.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Compile statistical data and reports regarding payroll expenses, fringe benefits, and labor costs for budgeting and forecasting purposes.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years specifically focused on managing payroll and benefits functions.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in ERP software (e.g., NetSuite, SAP) and robust knowledge of modern payroll/HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday, ADP, Paycom, or Dayforce).
  • Soft Skills: High attention to detail, confidentiality, and excellent cross-functional collaboration skills (partnering closely with HR).
  • Assist the Controller with software implementations and process improvements
