Job Summary:

The Accounting Assistant position is intended to understand the function of each department within First Service Corporation and how those departments provide support services to the Royal American Companies in order to assist in the facilitation of any projects that require collaboration between multiple departments.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Must be able to meet strict deadlines established by department and management agreements
  • A strong understanding of GAAP
  • Review accounting reports for accuracy and tie out balance sheet items to support
  • The ability to interpret business documents to understand what impact they may have on financial statements
  • The ability to interpret the accounting impact of business processes and operations software
  • Manage assigned projects and coordinate with necessary staff to meet deadlines and reporting requirements
  • Attend meetings as directed and other assignments as needed to meet the needs of the department and business
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Ability to read and understand financial, statements, partnership agreements, and other business documents
  • Familiar with monthly close processes and required reporting
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively and productively with other employees
  • Dependable, punctual, and reliable
  • Proficient in advanced Excel and Word
Education and Experience:
  • BS Degree in Business/ Accounting required
  • Sage (Timberline) software experience a plus and/or
  • Documented experience with other accounting softwares
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able work with a computer for a minimum of 7 hours daily
  • Must be able to read printed materials and computer screen
  • Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate in e-mail, by phone, or in person during the course of the workday
  • Ability to perform data entry, keyboarding, and mouse functions to complete job duties timely and efficiently
  • Ability to use phone systems and office machines
