Job Title
ASC Writing Tutor (Work Study or Student Assistant)
Position Summary
Provides academic tutoring services for writing to students on an individual basis or in small groups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide academic tutoring services by maintaining a weekly schedule of available hours for appointments.
  • Attend tutor training workshops as required.
  • Keep accurate records of tutoring appointments by filing tutoring reports.
  • Maintain contact with professors in your subject of expertise in order to obtain pertinent materials for the ASC.
  • Assist undergraduate students with writing assignments such as, topic selection, formatting, citations, grammar and punctuation.
  • Tutoring appointments are intended to assists students in becoming better writers.
  • Assist with additional duties as needed such as, covering the front desk, scheduling tutoring appointments, answering phones, organizing materials and maintaining information in the ASC.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Successfully completed courses in subject area tutoring with a grade of "A" or "B".
  • - Successfully demonstrate skills in subject by scoring the minimum required score on grammar and proofing test.
  • - Minimum GPA of 3.0 (exceptions upon discretion of the Director).

Experience
  • Formal or informal tutoring experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters pertaining to student's privacy.
  • Ability to work independently in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to instruct others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competence in the subject matter.
  • Enjoy tutoring the subject for which services are being provided.
