Job description

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

For complete program details, please go to our website:www.berklee.edu/se.Serve as an Assistant to the Stage Manager for the entire process of a main stage production, including rehearsals, technical and dress rehearsals, and performances. Students can work on plays, musicals, dance, or opera performances. Students can only serve as an ASM for one show per semester. Students cannot work additional campus jobs while working in the ASM role.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • During rehearsals for main stage shows:

  • Assists in supervising student cast and crew members.

  • Assists in setting up for and cleaning up after each rehearsal. This will typically require arrival 30 minutes prior to the rehearsal start time and staying 15 minutes after the rehearsal has ended.

  • Assists in organizing paperwork including props/scenery tracking, entrances/exits, quick change information, and other paperwork deemed necessary by Stage Management.

  • May be responsible for running a rehearsal room if multiple are happening simultaneously. This would include: Starting and stopping the rehearsal at the correct time, keeping students quiet, and taking breaks as necessary.

  • During the tech and performance for main stage shows:

    • Assists in training the student crew. This includes helping them learn the show, assigning tasks, and maintaining proper backstage etiquette.

    • Assists with creation of and distributes all props tracking/backstage run sheets as requested.

    • Assists with strike after the final performance.

    • Helps the Stage Management team problem-solve as necessary.

    • Other duties as needed or required by the production.

  • Students cannot work more than 29 hours in any week with the exception of two weeks: tech

  • week and performance week, which will allot for more than 30 hours to be worked. Student will work with the Hiring Manager/Stage Managers on logging and submitting of hours worked.

  • Students must enter their accurate hours worked into Workday by 2pm every Friday.
