Knowledge of dental procedures, terminology, and techniques. Knowledge of patient screening, charting, and medical history procedures and documentation. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities

  • Assesses dental condition and patient needs using established dental procedures such as medical history review, dental charting, and perio charting; takes patient vital signs.
  • Delivers direct dental care to patients to include cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides and related procedures.
  • Develops individualized care plans and performs patient education in consultation with a qualified dentist.
  • Performs general dental administrative duties such as developing x-rays, scheduling appointments and greeting patients.
  • Documents dental history or primary complaint and relays information to the dentist.
  • Participates in clinical and laboratory studies; mentors dental students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Physical and Environmental Demands

Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking.
