Job description

Description
The NYC Beekman Library is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented part-time student worker to join our circulation team. Student workers play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the library, working with library collections, assisting patrons, and contributing to a welcoming and productive environment for students, faculty, and staff. In addition to performing miscellaneous clerical duties, the Student Assistant will also be required to assist with various department projects as assigned.
Circulation Desk Assistance:
  • Provide exceptional customer service to library patrons by assisting with check-outs, reserves, returns, loaning technology, renewals, and holds.
  • Answer general inquiries related to library services, policies, and procedures.
  • Help patrons locate books, journals, and other materials using the library's catalog and online resources.
  • Assist with inter-library loan materials.

Shelving and Shelf Maintenance:
  • Organize and shelve books, periodicals, and other library materials according to established classification systems.
  • Maintain the neatness and orderliness of shelves and reading areas, ensuring materials are easy to find and access.

Technology Support:
  • Assist patrons with basic technology troubleshooting, including printing, scanning, and using library computers.
  • Monitor computer workstations to ensure they are functioning properly and report technical issues to library staff.

Maintain Cleanliness and Order:
  • Regularly monitor and tidy common areas, including study spaces, reading rooms, and seating areas, to ensure a clean and welcoming environment.

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Pace University
  • Federal Work-Study Eligible Students Only
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-service mindset.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in tasks.
  • Comfortable using technology, including library software, computers, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Reliable and punctual, with a professional attitude.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Library experience preferred.
