Job description

Bluewater Marine is now hiring pipefitters for the nation's largest shipyard - Huntington Ingalls Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, VA.  With over 22 years of experience, Bluewater Marine will always treat you like a valuable employee, not just a number on a list.  We are currently offering a sign on bonus of $500 AND a referral bonus of $500 for every valuable employee you refer.  If you've worked in Newport News Shipbuilding in the past, there's an additional $500 bonus!

Job Description

Three or more years experience as a marine, commercial nuclear, or petro/chem First Class Pipefitter.

Qualifications

  1. Able to read and interpret ship piping drawings
  2. Experienced fitting carbon steel, CRES, and copper-nickel piping
  3. Ability to end prep piping by hand and/or with Wach or Portsmouth Machine
  4. Knowledge of installing pipe hangers
  5. Ability to read a ruler using inches and tenths
  6. Ability to prep and fit- up backing rings
  7. Ability to clean cut/ break pipe with a grinder
  8. Ability to hand prep V bevels
  9. Experience in the fabrication of various details and assemblies from drawings
  10. Ability to bend pipe from a template and in the use of a hand bender
  11. Ability to fit brazed joints with/without insert ring

Job Description

  • Marine pipefitters are assigned to remove, repair, target, layout, fabricate, install and test marine piping systems onboard ships in various stages of repair and modernization.
  • Installs different types of sizes of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
  • Plans installation or repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers.
  • Repair and replacement of ships' piping systems such as auxiliary salt water, fire main, potable water, hydraulic, compressed air, fuel oil, lube oil, engine exhaust, and more.
  • Necessary fabrication abilities include the use of various shop equipment such as table saws, pipe threading machines, bending machines (power as well as hand operated), drill presses and brazing equipment.
  • Bends, cuts, threads, shapes, fabricates, and installs pipe according to job specifications.
  • Conducts pressure test of piping installations. Checks and adjusts controls, gauges, and valves to achieve control of flow or pressure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 In addition to having these required skills, all applicants must:

  • Be a US citizen
  • Able to speak, read and understand the English language
  • Able to pass a criminal background investigation
  • Able to pass a hair follicle drug test (HFT)
  • Must be able to work any shift
