Title
Work Study Costume Shop Assistant
Position Description
Are you interested in hands-on, creative work? If so, the Costume Shop is an excellent place to begin! We help create six Theatre and Dance Department productions per year. You will learn technical skills used for building and altering costumes, practical organization skills, and you will have opportunities to apply creative problem solving to your everyday work.
In the Costume Shop you will:
  • Assist in preparation of costumes for department productions, which may including hand sewing, machine sewing, alterations, cutting fabric, and crafting projects under the supervision of the Costume Shop Coordinator.
  • Duties may include data entry and other appropriate communications work.
  • Maintain efficient organization and cleanliness of the shop and storage areas.
  • Assist in the documentation of costume stock.
  • Assist in the measurement of cast members as needed.
  • Assist in the care of costume garments including laundering, ironing, and steaming.
  • Wardrobe duties include preparation of strike and strike clean up including preparing the dressing rooms, writing up costume lists, and setting up the back stage area. Also washing and restocking costumes following strike.
  • Assist in costume fittings as needed

Eligibility requirements:
  • Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Must have Work Study award in your financial aid package

  • Enthusiasm for costume, clothing, fashion, and sewing.
  • Close attention to detail
  • Tenacity and a commitment to quality and accuracy on all projects

  • Ability to remain calm and focused when in a busy environment

  • Ability to listen well, follow direction, and ask questions when necessary

Physical Demands
Preferably students should be able to lift 25 lbs., be comfortable on ladders, and be able to climb stairs. Manual dexterity is also necessary.
