Job description

Title: Work-Study Chemistry Lab Assistant

Position Type: Workstudy

College: Community College of Denver

Salary Range: $19.29/Hour

Job Summary:

Students in this position will assist the chemistry lab coordinator with preparing lab materials for in-person classes and assembling lab kits for online classes. They will also help maintain inventory and assist faculty instructors in setting up their labs as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Utilize personal protective equipment as required to ensure safe practices. Aid instructors with monitoring the use of personal protective equipment.
- Read and follow daily lab schedule and instructions to ensure set-up and breakdown of laboratory equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ensure the laboratory is prepared prior to the course's scheduled start time.
- Prepare materials, chemical reagents, and solutions as needed and ensure hazardous materials are stored in compliance with state and local regulations.
- Assemble, disassemble, clean, and store equipment and other appropriate supplies needed for experiments, and remove, collect, and label chemical waste from classrooms
and labs.
- Maintain current inventory database of all equipment, supplies and chemical quantities used in the various labs.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and instruction manuals with guidance from supervisor.
- Coordinate purchasing of all chemistry supplies and special equipment with supervisor.
- Prepare chemicals and supplies for the online lab kits created for the department.
- Aid in packing online lab kits and in receiving returned kits at the end of each semester.
- Provide support to students and instructors during labs. This support will involve activities such as replacing broken glassware, refilling chemicals, and helping with spill clean ups

Competencies/KSAs:

Some experience with Excel is helpful.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Must be enrolled in courses for the Fall 2026 semester at either Community College of Denver, University of Colorado Denver, or Metropolitan State University of Denver.
- Must have Work-Study awarded funds.
- Must have passed CHE 1011 or CHE 1111 at CCD, or an equivalent first-semester General Chemistry course at another institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

No additional education or experience is required outside of what was learned in Intro to Chemistry or General Chemistry I.
