Job description

Job Overview:
The Design Engineer at our millwork company is responsible for creating detailed designs and drawings for custom millwork products, including cabinetry, fixtures, and other architectural elements. This role requires a combination of creativity, technical expertise, and knowledge of manufacturing processes to ensure that designs are both aesthetically pleasing and manufacturable. The Design Engineer will collaborate closely with project managers, production teams, and clients to ensure designs meet specifications, timelines, and budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD drawings for custom millwork products, ensuring precision and adherence to project specifications.
  • Revise and refine designs based on feedback from project managers, clients, and production teams.
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure that designs are manufacturable and optimize material usage.
  • Provide technical support and guidance during the manufacturing and installation phases.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and alignment with project schedules.
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure design specifications meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Monitor project progress and make necessary adjustments to designs to accommodate changes or resolve issues.
  • Conduct quality checks on designs to ensure accuracy and feasibility before production.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and technologies to continually improve design quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant building codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of designs, including specifications, materials, and processes.
  • Update and organize design files and project documentation for easy retrieval and reference.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, Architecture, Industrial Design, or a related field (Preferred) or 5+ years of experience in design engineering, preferably within the millwork or woodworking industry.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Microvellum,  IX, Inventor, or similar), knowledge of CNC programming, and familiarity with design for manufacturability.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in design and documentation.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot design challenges and provide practical solutions.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of millwork manufacturing processes, materials, and industry standards.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for long periods and work at a computer.
  • Occasionally required to visit manufacturing facilities, which may require standing, walking, and wearing appropriate safety gear.
