The Psychiatric Institute of Washington is seeking a talented and dynamic Director of Social Work to join our team of dedicated healthcare professionals!

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PIW is a 130 bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. PIW has an excellent reputation as an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare. Situated in the safe, historical Tenleytown neighborhood, PIW is one mile from the Tenleytown Metro stop and within walking distance to local cafes and restaurants.

Position Summary:

The Director of Social Work is responsible for hospital-wide functions related to the development and maintenance of professional standards and policies for the entire Social Work department for services given to all patients (adolescent-adults). Ensures that clinical supervision is provided to all department staff. Internally, the incumbent will interface with hospital management, staff, and patients. Externally, the incumbent will interface with family members, the general public, licensing and accrediting agencies, schools of social work and healthcare treatment agencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervision of clinical coordinators as assigned, including 1 hour per week of documented individual clinical supervision as required by licensure for LGSW and LGPC clinical coordinators.
  • Carries a minimum case load.
  • Provides additional support and consultation to clinical coordinators with complex cases and patients with long length of stay.
  • Assist with behavioral programming for eligible patients.
  • Completes psychosocial assessments within 72 hours of patient’s arrival on the unit and records the meeting in the chart, which includes identification of psychosocial factors with high-risk potential, social, financial, and legal considerations, and a conclusion regarding the identified problems.
  • Documents (within 24 hours) progress notes for individual sessions with patients which indicate date and length of session summary of content and degree of resolution, and discussion of treatment and discharge/disposition issues.
  • Develops and conducts groups as determined by identified patient population needs and documents group member participation in chart notes in an accurate and objective manner.
  • Documents discharge planning needs and updated information on the psychosocial assessment, master treatment plan, and each treatment plan update.
  • Monitors insurance requirements and keeps utilization reviewer and other treatment team members current with patient’s progress, family meetings, and other case occurrences.
  • Performs case management functions as needed.
  • Attends and actively participates in multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings and ensures that conclusions drawn from psychosocial assessment are incorporated into the patient’s treatment plans.
  • Supervises social work students as assigned by Director of Clinical Services.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of clinical activity with that of other staff to minimize scheduling conflicts.
  • Demonstrates a professional attitude during internal and external communication and interactions with all staff, patients, family members, guests, community, and referral sources.
  • Provides in-service training as necessary for enhancement of medical record documentation in accordance with all regulatory standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate records for quality of care and collaborate effectively with treatment teams for positive outcomes.
  • Updates Social Services policies as required. Proactively develops policies and procedures for department(s) as needs.
  • Provides administrative coverage on a rotational on-call schedule.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in social work
  • District of Columbia License LICSW (current) and must maintain as a condition of continued employment.
  • Two to five years of experience in a mental health setting.
  • Previous psychiatric inpatient experience preferred.
  • Previous clinical supervision experience preferred.
