Position Summary
The Whitby DCSA Representative Mentorship role includes acting as a DCSA Representative and a Whitby Esports Lead, supporting various functions and events at the Whitby Campus.
DCSA Representative Responsibilities
- Inform students of DCSA services, including upcoming events, Support Hub, Media Hub, and Health Plan.
- Speak and communicate about DCSA, its values, mission, and services, and support our front office and event team.
- Inform the manager of any on-site issues and effectively communicate any misconduct occurring in the Esports room.
- Organize and run monthly events, including selecting prizes, organizing students into groups, and running tournaments.
- Stay informed about DCSA services and offerings.
- Support DCSA orientation activities and general events as needed.
- Support the DCSA Locker Programs as necessary.
- Support other departments as needed.
Whitby Esports Lead Responsibilities
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be on time and ready to work when scheduled and be responsible as a key holder
- Monitor the space while on duty
- Support Whitby Esports staff
- Provide the Esports coordinator support on daily operations, such as after-hours support
- Assisting the Esports coordinator on short-term and long-term plans for the space by providing insight and second opinions
- Assist in updating and creating policies and procedures that will support staff and enhance the student experience
- Take leadership when the Esports coordinator is off-site or when the Esports coordinator is unavailable
- Ensure all equipment is checked out and all participants are signed in
- Process payment through POS system when applicable
- Keep the space neat and organized
- Assist in maintaining an updated inventory of video games and systems, equipment, and supplies
- Notify the Esports Coordinator of any equipment, repairs, or purchases required
- Attend regular staff meetings
- Planning, implementation, and review of esports-related events
- Ability to speak and communicate about the DCSA, its values, mission, and services and supporting our front office and event team
- Assist Esports Coordinator with updating the Discord server to improve student experience and server functionality
- Assist Esports Coordinator in establishing partnerships with both internal and external organizations
- Provide on-site support for equipment, including gaming consoles and other equipment with the ability to perform basic troubleshooting.
- Enforcement of space rules. Reporting any issues to the manager.
- Support scheduling of the Whitby Esports team.
- May be required to work weekends, evenings, and at the Oshawa Campus for occasional events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- Must have graduated from a full-time Durham College program within 2 academic years
- Knowledge of video games and gaming systems, including their connectivity and capability
- Knowledge of gaming consoles and basic troubleshooting
- Knowledge of Virtual Reality (VR) and/or Sim Racing is considered an asset
- Knowledgeable about the DCSA and the Esports Lounge
- Knowledgeable about Discord and its functionality
- Knowledge about streaming and stream setup is considered an asset

Learning Outcomes:
- Learn to supervise a recreational space, enforce rules, handle misconduct, and provide recommendations for improvements.

- Conduct monthly inventory assessments, identify equipment that needs replacement, and create shopping lists for necessary items.
- Identify and address issues proactively, manage tasks without constant supervision, and make informed decisions within a recreational space.
