Job description

As a tutor in Sylvanโ€™s high performing, individualized learning environment, youโ€™ll see the โ€œlight bulbโ€ moments daily. Youโ€™ll have the time to teach a concept to a student in as many ways as they need until they understand it. Youโ€™ll build studentsโ€™ skills while building their confidence. We are currently hiring a Part-Time Elementary Certified Tutor to complement Sylvanโ€™s growing team of education professionals. Sylvan Learning provides academic tutoring for students from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade, helping students to get ahead or to get caught up. Our mission is to see success with every child who comes through our doors. The Part-Time Elementary Tutor plays a crucial role in delivering a high-level of content to the students while at the same time building positive, confidence-boosting rapport with the student.

Tutors will be expected to:

  • Work in 1-hour tutoring blocks. (Up to 5 blocks per night, and up to 4 nights per week, at tutorโ€™s discretion)
  • Multitask: effectively tutoring as many as three students per block.
  • Observe and record studentsโ€™ progress through pre-planned curriculum.
  • Communicate clearly and quickly with Center Directors regarding availability and student concerns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required; teaching credential preferred
  • Mastery of knowledge at all elementary grade levels
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
