What is a work shipping job?

A Work Shipping job typically involves managing the shipment of goods from one location to another, ensuring that packages are packed, labeled, and sent out correctly and on time. Responsibilities may include tracking shipments, coordinating with carriers, handling paperwork, and maintaining inventory records. People in shipping roles often work closely with warehouse staff, logistics teams, and customers to make sure orders are fulfilled efficiently. Accuracy, organization, and attention to detail are important skills for this role.

Job description

Ultratec Special Effects is looking for a hands-on leader to take ownership of our Groveland, FL service and distribution facility. This is a unique opportunity to step into a small but critical operation where you will lead repair work, oversee shipping and receiving across the U.S., and help shape the future of the site.

You will work alongside a highly experienced team while bringing fresh energy, structure, and leadership to daily operations. This role is ideal for someone who is equally comfortable troubleshooting equipment, managing workflow, and leading people.

What You’ll Do
  • Diagnose, repair, and test a wide range of special effects equipment (fog, snow, bubble machines, and more).

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the Groveland facility, balancing repair work, shipping, and inventory flow.

  • Coordinate all shipping and receiving activities, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely movement of equipment across the U.S.

  • Communicate directly with customers regarding repair status, estimates, and technical issues.

  • Provide repair estimates and manage parts ordering to maintain efficiency and cost control.

  • Support and guide a small, experienced team—leveraging their deep knowledge while helping modernize processes and workflows.

  • Maintain organized records, service documentation, and system updates.

What Makes You Successful
  • You are a confident, hands-on leader who isn’t afraid to step in and make decisions.

  • You respect experience but are comfortable introducing new ideas and improvements.

  • You enjoy solving mechanical problems and working with your hands.

  • You can balance technical work with operational oversight and customer communication.

  • You take ownership of your work and the performance of your site.

Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in equipment repair, appliance repair, or similar technical field.

  • Experience in a lead, supervisory, or team coordination role strongly preferred.

  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.

  • Comfortable with computers, inventory systems, and shipping platforms.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a small team environment.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with small appliances, electronics repair, or mechanical systems.

  • Shipping/logistics experience (FedEx, UPS, freight coordination).

  • Experience working in a service or manufacturing environment.

What We Offer
  • Stable, full-time schedule (no nights or weekends).

  • Competitive pay based on experience.

  • Benefits, holidays and paid time off.

  • Small team environment with high impact and autonomy.

  • Opportunity to grow into a broader operational leadership role.
