Work In Cyprus information

What does it mean to work in Cyprus?

Working in Cyprus refers to being employed or running a business within the country, which is known for its thriving tourism, finance, and shipping sectors. Employees in Cyprus benefit from a Mediterranean lifestyle, attractive tax incentives, and a relatively low cost of living compared to other EU countries. The official languages are Greek and Turkish, but English is widely spoken, especially in business settings. Non-EU nationals generally need a work permit or visa, while EU citizens can work freely. The Cypriot labor market is diverse, offering opportunities in hospitality, IT, education, and more.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive when working in Cyprus, and why are they important?

To thrive in a professional role in Cyprus, you generally need relevant educational qualifications, industry-specific experience, and often fluency in English or Greek. Familiarity with regional regulations, business software like Microsoft Office, and, for some roles, certifications such as ACCA for accounting or TEFL for teaching are valuable. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability to multicultural environments, and effective communication help professionals integrate and collaborate with diverse teams. These skills and qualifications ensure you can meet local job requirements, perform effectively, and contribute positively to the Cypriot workplace.

What are some common challenges faced by expatriates working in Cyprus, and how can they be addressed?

Expatriates working in Cyprus often encounter challenges such as adapting to a new cultural environment, navigating administrative processes (like work permits and healthcare registration), and overcoming language barriers. Many companies offer support by providing orientation programs, assistance with paperwork, and language courses. Building a local network and participating in community events can also help expats integrate more smoothly into Cypriot society and the workplace.

Job description

Turn connections into opportunities-and make a visible impact in the communities we serve.
Cyprus Credit Union is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and highly organized coordinator who enjoys building relationships and bringing plans to life. In this dynamic role, you will represent Cyprus in the community, connect with local businesses, coordinate memorable events, and help transform promising conversations into meaningful business opportunities.
No two days will look exactly alike. You may spend one day engaging with attendees at a community event and the next coordinating schedules, tracking results, following up on leads, or partnering with branches to ensure every detail comes together.
We are seeking someone who takes ownership, anticipates needs, follows through, and continuously looks for a better way. Cyprus Credit Union has been recognized as one of the Best Credit Unions to Work For since 2020, and we are committed to helping employees grow, advance, and make a difference in the communities we serve.
What You'll Do
You will help expand Cyprus Credit Union's community presence while keeping the Relationship Development team organized, responsive, and moving forward. Key responsibilities include:
Build meaningful relationships with businesses, community organizations, partners, members, and prospective members. Represent Cyprus with confidence at community events, educational programs, outreach activities, and business development opportunities. Create opportunities by starting conversations, identifying leads, promoting Cyprus membership and services, and following up with purpose.
Coordinate events from start to finish, including requests, schedules, logistics, contacts, follow-up, and results. Keep projects on track by collaborating with branches, departments, leadership, businesses, and community partners. When challenges arise, take ownership, communicate clearly, find practical solutions, and determine the next step.
Most importantly, you will be one of the faces of Cyprus Credit Union-representing our organization with professionalism, energy, confidence, and a genuine commitment to building lasting relationships.
Who We're Looking For
You may be a great fit if you are:
You are proactive and results-oriented, noticing what needs to be done and acting without constant direction. As a natural connector, you are comfortable starting conversations, developing professional relationships, and speaking confidently about Cyprus. You are also highly organized and dependable, able to balance multiple events, relationships, requests, deadlines, and priorities without losing sight of the details.
You communicate clearly, write well, solve problems collaboratively, work independently, and contribute positively to a team. You are comfortable with technology, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, and eager to learn new tracking and software systems.
Basic experience with Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or another graphic design application is preferred. This role requires regular travel between Cyprus locations, businesses, and community events. Employees must be able to meet this travel requirement through a reliable means of transportation. The essential functions of the position include building professional relationships, coordinating event logistics, communicating with internal and external partners, maintaining records and schedules, and representing Cyprus at community and business events, with or without reasonable accommodation.
What Does Success Look Like?
Success is about more than attending events or completing tasks-it is about creating momentum and making an impact. In this role, you will:
You will develop relationships that lead to measurable opportunities for membership growth and stronger business and community partnerships. You will deliver a high volume of quality work while meeting deadlines and honoring commitments, spot problems and opportunities early, take initiative, communicate clearly, and follow through.
Over time, you will become a trusted resource for branches, coworkers, leaders, and community partners while building a strong understanding of Cyprus Credit Union so you can confidently represent our mission, products, services, and values.
Education and Experience
Required: High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the knowledge and skills needed to perform the essential functions of the position. Preferred: Experience in customer service, relationship building, business development, sales, community outreach, event coordination, or back-office support. Credit union, banking, or financial services experience is also preferred.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Community and business development don't always happen during traditional business hours, so flexibility is important. This position will occasionally participate in early morning, evening, and Saturday events.
Benefits
Full-time employees are eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes:
Benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; a 401(k) and retirement savings plan; 12 paid holidays; and a paid day off for your birthday. PTO begins accumulating on day one, and employees can earn additional PTO through community volunteering. Cyprus also offers competitive tuition reimbursement.
Ready to Join Cyprus?
If you are ready to build relationships, create opportunities, and see the results of your work in the community, we would love to meet you.
Apply today and help Cyprus Credit Union strengthen the connections that move our members, businesses, and communities forward.
