Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.

Location & Team Gatherings

About This Role

As part of Intersect’s Market Risk team, you’ll help shape how we identify, measure, and manage market risk across our growing natural gas portfolio. This role combines deep market expertise with technical leadership, driving the development of risk analytics, valuation tools, and reporting frameworks that support trading, planning, and investment decisions.

Working closely with Origination, Trading, Operations, and executive leadership, you’ll provide critical insights into physical and financial natural gas positions while helping strengthen the systems and processes that enable informed decision-making. You’ll also play a key role in delivering transparent, accurate risk reporting to both internal stakeholders and investors.

Team Overview

The Market Risk team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by providing independent risk oversight and market intelligence across the company’s portfolio. The team is responsible for measuring, monitoring, and reporting market risks throughout the development, construction, and operation lifecycle of our assets and commercial positions.

Partnering closely with Front Office, Back Office, Finance, and Operations teams, Market Risk develops the analytics, valuations, and reporting frameworks that support informed decision-making and responsible growth. Joining this team offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of markets, technology, and strategy while helping shape the future of Intersect’s risk management capabilities.

What You'll Do

Advance Natural Gas Risk Analytics

  • Lead the technical analysis and quantification of market risks across physical and financial natural gas commodity and transportation positions.

  • Develop and enhance risk models that provide actionable insights into portfolio exposures and market movements.

  • Analyze and explain risk drivers, valuation changes, and market impacts to stakeholders across the organization.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on natural gas market dynamics, transportation markets, pipeline tariffs, and trading activities.

Build Scalable Risk Technology Solutions

  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced risk analytics tools using Python, SQL, and Google Cloud Platform.

  • Create scalable applications and automated processes that improve risk measurement, reporting, and operational efficiency.

  • Partner with stakeholders to identify opportunities for enhanced data management, analytics, and reporting capabilities.

Deliver Risk Reporting and Transparency

  • Lead the development and maintenance of Business Intelligence reporting that supports timely, accurate, and compliant risk reporting.

  • Produce risk reports and analyses for executive leadership, investors, and other key stakeholders.

  • Ensure data integrity and reporting consistency across risk management processes and systems.

Strengthen Risk Governance

  • Monitor portfolio risk exposures and support adherence to established risk policies and controls.

  • Maintain documentation, processes, and reporting standards that support effective risk oversight.

  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of Intersect’s market risk framework and governance practices.

Support Valuation and Market Data Management

  • Maintain natural gas forward curves used for trading, valuation, planning, and risk analysis activities.

  • Ensure market data quality and accuracy across valuation and risk management systems.

  • Support mark-to-market valuation processes and broader portfolio analytics initiatives.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.

  • 5+ years of direct experience working in Southwest natural gas markets.

  • Demonstrated experience performing quantitative analysis within energy markets.

  • Strong expertise in Python and SQL for analytics, modeling, automation, and application development.

  • Experience developing risk analytics, valuation models, or market reporting solutions.

  • Strong understanding of quantitative finance concepts, including Value-at-Risk (VaR), Mark-to-Market (MTM) valuation methodologies, and other market risk metrics.

  • Working knowledge of Business Intelligence tools and reporting platforms.

  • Experience working with cloud-based technologies, particularly Google Cloud Platform.

  • Deep knowledge of natural gas market fundamentals, transportation markets, pipeline tariffs, and trading dynamics.

  • Ability to translate complex market and risk concepts into clear insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical curiosity, and a commitment to data quality and accuracy.

  • Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively across trading, operations, finance, and leadership teams.
