Job description

Description and Functions Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: *This is an At-Will Employee Contract (AWEC) part-time position. *This position offers full-time telework, with occasional required in-office attendance. * The selected applicant may live anywhere in Wyoming.

This position facilitates and supports best practices and program development for the successful education of deaf or hard of hearing students. It also supports and facilitates the Wyoming Department of Education's role as a lead agency for individuals with hearing loss in the state. Additionally, it upholds the general supervision responsibilities of the Special Programs unit of the Wyoming Department of Education, as mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Provide comprehensive onsite and virtual support to Wyoming public schools. This includes traveling for onsite visits to offer program guidance and follow-up assistance to service providers within assigned regions. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate annual workshops and targeted in-service training for diverse providers-including Teachers of the Deaf, Interpreters, SLPs, and Special Education teachers-on the specific educational needs of students with hearing loss.

Lead the planning and implementation of statewide outreach events (such as DHH Roundup and secondary transition workshops). Develop strategies to increase participation and inclusion for DHH students and their families. Represent the WDE on state and national committees.

Contribute to the broader goals of the WDE through active participation in staff meetings, professional development, and general supervision activities to ensure high-quality service delivery across the state. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications PREFERENCES: A bachelor's degree in deaf education, certified teacher of the deaf, ASL interpreter, speech language pathologist, audiologist, or other closely related field.

Preferred: a master's degree and at least 5 years of experience working in the field of Deaf Education, from birth through 21 years of age. KNOWLEDGE: The ability to communicate effectively with deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals, demonstrate knowledge of hearing loss, and interpret audiograms. Have basic knowledge of relevant technology, including remote microphones, sound field systems, hearing aids, bone-conducted hearing devices, and cochlear implants.

Know the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, with the ability to discuss Individualized Education Plan (IEP) content. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, professional demeanor and appearance, and the ability to maintain professionalism and impartiality when working with constituents. Must be self-motivated and capable of independent work (e.g., contacting schools, scheduling appointments) while recognizing when to seek guidance and information from team members or the SPED division

Be aware of the responsible use of public funds and the knowledge of resources available at the Deaf/Hard of Hearing library in Casper. Competency with computer skills for email, document creation, tracking technical assistance, developing presentations, and setting up virtual meetings/workshops (Good Meet or Zoom). Physical ability to travel and a willingness to work collaboratively as a team player.

NOTES: FLSA: Non-Exempt This is an At-Will Employee Contract (AWEC) part-time position This position offers full-time telework, with occasional required in-office attendance. Successful applicants must reside in Wyoming or maintain a primary residence within a 100-mile radius of Cheyenne for the duration of their employment with the Wyoming Department of Education.
