Position Purpose
We are seeking a dependable, analytical and service-minded Payroll & Bookkeeping Specialist to support our growing payroll and client accounting services. This role combines payroll administration with bookkeeping and data-entry responsibilities, helping ensure timely payroll processing, accurate financial records and excellent client support.
The Payroll & Bookkeeping Specialist will partner closely with internal team members and clients, taking ownership of recurring payroll and bookkeeping processes while supporting churches, nonprofits and closely held organizations with professionalism and care. This position also creates additional organizational capacity by allowing senior team members to focus on client relationships, consulting and onboarding.

Primary Responsibilities
• Process and oversee all aspects of assigned client payroll
• Prepare weekly, quarterly and annual payroll reporting
• Oversee and support 1099 processing and related filings
• Maintain bookkeeping and data-entry responsibilities with high accuracy and timeliness
• Assist with client onboarding and setup of payroll/accounting systems
• Verify employee deductions and payroll information for accuracy
• Create and maintain payroll quality-control checks and balances
• Correspond with clients and taxing authorities to resolve questions and issues promptly
• Maintain organized payroll and bookkeeping records and documentation
• Assist with reconciliations and other client accounting needs as assigned
• Identify opportunities for improved efficiencies, systems, procedures and software usage
• Support client engagement documentation and administrative follow-through
• Collaborate with team members to balance workload demands and support future growth
• Provide payroll reports and analysis as requested
• Build familiarity with client operations and serve as a responsive source of support and information
Preferred Background & Qualifications
• Experience in payroll processing and bookkeeping or accounting support required
• QuickBooks and payroll software experience strongly preferred
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field helpful but not required
• Bookkeeping or payroll certifications are valued but not required
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Ability to manage recurring deadlines and prioritize competing responsibilities
• Strong communication skills with both clients and internal team members
• Experience with churches, nonprofits or church councils is a plus
• Comfortable working independently and in a remote or hybrid environment
