Description:

 The Village of Morton Grove is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time Maintenance Worker I  position.  

Overview: The Maintenance Worker I performs manual labor of routine difficulty involving physically demanding  unskilled and semi-skilled tasks and performs related work as required. This recruitment is designed to  fill a Maintenance Worker I vacancy in the Forestry Section. Under the direct supervision of a Crew  Leader, the employee will perform the duties as assigned and associated with the Department of Public  Works Forestry Section and assist other divisions within the Public Works. Consequently, a history of  experience on a tree/shrub maintenance or tree removal crew is desirable. When not directly engaged in  forestry operations, this employee will also be expected to operate as a laborer, assisting the Street  Division with maintaining local streets. This is a laborer position that is subject to 24-hour callback.  


Requirements:
  • Performs heavy manual labor, completing tasks such as digging and shoveling for the Tree Planting Program.
  • Operation of equipment needed to work effectively at heights required to maintain a healthy tree canopy. 
  • Lifts and carries supplies needed for forestry operations or repairing Village infrastructure. 
  • Safely operates all power and manual tools associated with the various operational divisions of Public Works. 
  • Carries or lifts branches when a tree is cut down or trimmed. • Safely operates chipping and stumping equipment.
  •  Posts or guard rail installation; cleaning after all repairs and severe weather events; being a flagman; feeding branches through a chipper; water plantings. 
  • Abilility to cross train and work within all Department of Public Works Divisions. 
  • Snow Plowing The position requires responding to work-related emergencies 24 hours a day and the ability to obtain a  Class B CDL.  
  •  Salary ranges from $59,310 to $76,726.00 DOQ with excellent benefits (health, dental, IMRF).
