Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to help meet the evolving workforce needs of the utility industry by providing San Antonio college students meaningful, hands-on experience paired with mentorship. The internship is structured to help the intern learn how work gets done in a professional environment, understand the rationale behind planning and governance practices, and build foundational skills that support career readiness. Applicants must reside in the San Antonio Metropolitan area and be currently enrolled or recently graduated to qualify. 

The primary purpose of the Energy Equity intern is to support the development of the Energy Equity process.  This includes all business activities for CPS Energy in support of the Energy Equity Process, including integration and alignment with multiple areas of the enterprise.  Responsibilities of this intern: include, but are not limited to, supporting Sr. Manager, and providing enterprise and customer level services to facilitate the design, development, and implementation of the Energy Equity program.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Process documentation and analysis 

  • Map current‑state workflows for selected processes using swim-lane diagrams, flowcharts or SIPOCs. 
  • Identify redundancies, delays, and unclear ownership within mapped processes. 
  • Compare current performance against benchmarks or internal target. 
  • Identify improvement opportunities and categorize them by impact and effort. 

Facilitation and communication  

  • Prepare concise summaries of findings for leadership or project teams. 
  • Interview team members to understand steps, handoffs, and pain points. 
  • Effectively coordinate and facilitate various meetings related to process mapping and process analysis. 
  • Facilitate small brainstorming sessions with team members to explore solutions or recommendations to address process pain points. 
  • Perform other duties and serve on special project teams as assigned. 
  • Must be able to report to assigned worksite Monday-Friday; 40-hour work week. 
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
A minimum GPA of 2.5.
Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
Demonstrated leadership potential.
