What is a WordPress developer?

WordPress developers are professionals who specialize in designing, building, and maintaining websites using the WordPress content management system (CMS). They may create custom themes, develop plugins, and optimize sites for performance, security, and user experience. WordPress developers often work with clients to bring their website ideas to life, ensuring the site is functional, responsive, and easy to manage. Their expertise ranges from front-end design to back-end development, depending on the needs of the project.

Is WordPress a good career choice?

A career involving WordPress can be viable for web developers and designers, as it is a widely used content management system with a large market share. Success often depends on skills in PHP, HTML, CSS, and familiarity with plugins and themes, along with ongoing learning to keep up with updates and security practices.

How does a WordPress developer typically collaborate with designers and content creators on website projects?

WordPress Developers frequently work closely with designers to implement visually appealing and user-friendly layouts, often translating design mockups into functional themes. They also coordinate with content creators to ensure that posts, pages, and multimedia are seamlessly integrated and optimized for SEO. Effective communication and use of project management tools are key, as developers must balance technical requirements with the creative vision and content strategy of the team. This collaboration ensures that the final website aligns with both business goals and user needs.

What are WordPress jobs?

WordPress jobs fall into two major categories. Automattic, the owner of WordPress, has positions where you can work as a developer on the back end and create new content for the platform. However, the majority of jobs focus on being a user and knowing how and when to use the many features that WordPress offers. In these roles, you may be asked to develop and maintain a Wordpress site, code original themes and content, evaluate design aspects, conduct website testing, and design new applications. Fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of these jobs usually requires several years of experience with WordPress. As part of their qualifications, some employers may ask to see a portfolio of work so they can evaluate your skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a WordPress developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a WordPress Developer, you need strong expertise in PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and experience with WordPress themes and plugins, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tools like Git, MySQL, page builders, and knowledge of security best practices, as well as certifications such as WordPress-specific courses, are advantageous. Problem-solving, creativity, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for meeting client needs and collaborating with teams. These skills ensure efficient website development, customization, maintenance, and client satisfaction in a dynamic web environment.

Are jobs in WordPress still good?

Jobs in WordPress remain in demand as many businesses and organizations continue to use the platform for website development and management. Skills in PHP, HTML, CSS, and familiarity with page builders like Elementor can enhance job prospects, which include roles such as developers, designers, and support specialists.

Job description

At BETA, we see graphic design as a powerful form of visual storytelling-one that engages, informs, and inspires. We're looking for a versatile and imaginative Graphic Designer who can translate ideas into compelling visual experiences across a variety of mediums. This role is intentionally broad: you might be designing for digital campaigns, print materials, brand moments, or something entirely new.

You'll partner with teams across the organization to bring concepts to life-from early brainstorming through final execution. The right person is both a strong conceptual thinker and a thoughtful craftsperson, with a solid understanding of branding and the flexibility to adapt style, tone, and layout depending on the project. If you're someone who enjoys wearing multiple creative hats and contributing to a growing brand in an evolving industry, this role offers plenty of room to explore and grow.

How you will contribute to the mission:

Develop creative concepts by interpreting ideas, goals, and project requirements
Design and produce a wide range of visual assets across print and digital platforms
Translate concepts into thoughtful layouts, typography, and visual systems
Collaborate closely with internal teams (marketing, product, web, and beyond) to bring ideas to life
Prepare and deliver polished, production-ready files using industry-standard tools
Partner with external vendors, printers, and creative partners when needed
Continuously refine designs based on feedback, ensuring high-quality, impactful outcomes
Contribute to the evolution and consistency of BETA's visual brand

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or a related field (or equivalent experience)
A strong portfolio demonstrating creativity, range, and attention to detail
Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
A keen eye for visual composition, typography, and layout
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Openness to feedback and a collaborative mindset
Foundational understanding of branding, marketing, and visual communication

Above and Beyond:

3+ years of professional design experience (in-house or agency)
Familiarity with web design principles and front-end basics (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
Experience with CMS platforms such as WordPress
  Photography and/or photo editing skills
A curiosity-driven mindset and a desire to keep learning and expanding your creative toolkit
