Job description

Allen Organ Company seeks a Machine Operator to work in the Wood Shop Department at our location in Macungie, PA.  The schedule is 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.  We offer a competitive package for qualified individuals.  Join our team today!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up and perform machine operations using various types of machines in the Wood Shop Department.
  • Must be able to read the sales order that follows the wood projects detailing the operational step from machine to machine.
  • Ability to use a tape measure so the operation at each station is accurate and matches the sales order.
  • Ability to visually look at the wood to identify knots or other defects so those pieces aren’t moved to the next step in the operation.
  • Perform wood subassembly as needed.
  • Move scrap pieces of wood to the appropriate bin or work area after operation.
  • Assist in machine operations as needed.
  • Must be flexible to move to different machines based on the operation needed for each order.
  • Must follow all safety rules regarding machine operation, proper guarding, and machine safety.
  • Must be capable of working to a high level of accuracy and perform inspection of work as operator goes through each step in the process.
  • Complete work assignments as assigned by Department Supervisor.
  • Must cooperate with other employees in the department to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the department to include but not limited to safety glasses and ear plugs.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience operating wood shop machines is helpful.  Variety of machines include Rip Saw, Surface Machine, Cut Off Saw, Table Saw, Joiner, Drill Press, Multi-Bore Machine, Sander, etc.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Attention to detail.
  • High quality control standards.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Strong math skills are a plus.
  • Ability to work overtime if needed.
  • Operator must be able to stand during the shift.  Some reaching and bending of the upper body is required.
  • Must be able to use vision to perform job.
  • Must be able to work in an environment where saw dust is present.
