Wolverine information

What is a wolverine?

Wolverines are stocky and muscular carnivorous mammals belonging to the weasel family, scientifically known as Gulo gulo. They are known for their strength, ferocity, and ability to survive in harsh, cold environments such as the northern boreal forests and tundra. Wolverines have thick fur, a keen sense of smell, and are solitary animals, often traveling great distances to find food. Despite their reputation, wolverines are elusive and rarely seen in the wild.

What are some common challenges faced by wildlife biologists working on wolverine conservation projects?

Wildlife biologists working on wolverine conservation often encounter challenges such as tracking elusive animals in remote, rugged terrain and dealing with harsh weather conditions. Wolverines are solitary and have large home ranges, which makes monitoring populations and collecting data a complex task. Additionally, coordinating with land management agencies and local stakeholders is essential for habitat protection, requiring strong communication and collaboration skills. Biologists must also stay updated on the latest research methods and technology to effectively study and protect this threatened species.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a wolverine, and why are they important?

Position Summary
The Senior Superintendent is the senior field leader on Wolverine's largest and most complex projects — the person accountable for everything that happens on site. Commanding large field crews and multiple trades, and often overseeing assistant and area superintendents, the Senior Super drives the work to completion safely, on schedule, and to exacting quality. This is a senior leadership role for a proven builder who has run major commercial or industrial jobs and can hold total command of a large, fast-moving site. Wolverine is a growing regional GC taking on bigger, more complex work, and this role sits at the center of how we deliver it.
Core Responsibilities
  • Total Site Leadership — Own the entire jobsite operation; direct large field crews and coordinate all trades across the full scope of work. The final field authority on site.
  • Schedule & Production — Own and drive the master field schedule; run look-aheads, sequence complex phases, coordinate manpower and deliveries at scale, and clear obstacles before they impact the critical path.
  • Quality & Inspections — Enforce build-it-right-the-first-time standards across all trades; own the inspection process and ensure the work meets plans, specs, and code.
  • Safety Leadership — Set and enforce the safety culture for the entire site; ensure full compliance with OSHA and site-specific safety programs. Stop-work authority for any unsafe condition — safety is never overruled by schedule or cost.
  • Team Development — Lead, mentor, and hold accountable assistant/area superintendents and field staff; build the bench.
  • Project & Owner Coordination — Partner with project management, ownership, design teams, and inspectors; report field status, risks, and forecasts to leadership.
What We're Looking For
  • Extensive senior-level superintendent experience — a long track record running large, complex commercial or industrial projects as the lead/general superintendent.
  • Large-scale command — proven ability to manage sizable field crews and multiple concurrent trades on a major jobsite.
  • A leader of leaders — has directed assistant or area superintendents and commands the respect of the trades.
  • Master of the schedule — deep expertise in phasing, sequencing, critical-path management, and driving production at scale.
  • Uncompromising on safety and quality — sets the standard for the whole site.
  • Complete command of the work — plans, specs, code, means and methods, and the inspection process.
  • Tech-capable — proficient with construction management and scheduling software (e.g., RedTeam, Procore, Microsoft Project/P6, etc).
What Success Looks Like
A large, complex jobsite that runs safely, stays on schedule, and is built right the first time — with a field team that performs under pressure and trades that respect the leadership. A Senior Superintendent whom leadership can hand the hardest projects to with total confidence.
