Purpose of Position:

Hexagon's Integrated Machine Systems division is looking for a Design Technologist to join our team! The Design Technologist is responsible for preparing designs, drawings, bill of materials and related technical documentation enabling control of heavy machinery through Hexagons numerous product offerings.

Major Areas of Responsibility:
  • Develop and prepare technical designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, specification sheets and other data
  • Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
  • Review and understand electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics
  • Review and understand machine operator manuals
  • Prepare electronic layouts, charts, detailed drawings, bills of material and equipment requirements from machine specifications, and standard layouts provided
  • Revise computer-aided designs and plans to comply with modified specifications made during actual construction
  • Review plans and write technical reports to meet project specifications
  • Ensure proper documentation of all work, products and relevant activities
  • Take part in peer review processes
  • Work with internal ERP software
  • Support field implementations
Knowledge and Experience - Required:
  • Post-secondary diploma in engineering design and drafting technology or in a related field
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design Tools
  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering environment
Knowledge and Experience - Desired:
  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of heavy machinery used in mining or other related industries
  • Experience working with an ISO 9001 environment would be considered an asset
  • Motivated by challenging work
Travel:
  • Up to 10% Domestic travel
