Job description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The essential function of the position within the organization is to perform skilled carpentry work in support of the proper maintenance of District properties. The position is responsible for performing manual labor, maintaining equipment and tools, completing work orders in a timely manner with minimal service disruption, and maintaining accurate work records. The position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.


This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the primary job elements.

1.Performs skilled carpentry work to support the maintenance of District facilities. 2.Identifies and inspects maintenance and repair needs and safety concerns throughout District facilities; evaluates and makes recommendations to supervisor for the most efficient methods of accomplishing repairs.

3.Reads and interprets blueprints and other drawings; assists in estimating and planning project materials, costs and labor requirements.

4.Performs structural and finish repairs on buildings.

5.Installs and/or assists in the installation of walls and ceiling systems, millwork, roofing systems and floor coverings, doors and windows; installs equipment in windows or walls.

6.May prepare specifications for, order, install and maintain locking mechanisms on doors and windows, and maintain master key controls/records.

7.Builds, alters, repairs, modifies and/or installs furnishings, fixtures and equipment, including but not limited to playground equipment, picnic tables, fencing, bleachers, concrete or steel structures.

8.Assists in supervising the work of helpers, laborers and/or contractors as assigned.

9.Assists in maintaining assigned trucks and equipment; performs cleaning, preventive maintenance and simple repair work as required.

10.May drive and operate trucks and other vehicles; operates various hand and power tools as necessary to accomplish tasks.

11.Performs other maintenance and repair duties as designated by supervisor.

12.Performs duties in accordance with all department policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety.

13.Documents labor hours and materials used on assigned tasks.

14.Attends training and meetings as required to exchange information and to enhance job knowledge and skills.

15.Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.


Requires High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience and requires valid Drivers License.


This position will work in MSCS Zone 2 and Zone 4.
