Windows Engineer – Role Overview
This role is focused on strategic engineering, design, and lifecycle management within a large-scale Microsoft infrastructure environment. The team supports core Windows services across both on-prem and AWS-hosted infrastructure in a highly operationally mature enterprise environment. The role is intended for S2 or S3-level engineers, with flexibility depending on the strength of the candidate. The hiring manager emphasized the need for strong critical thinking, operational maturity, and the ability to navigate a large enterprise environment effectively.

Role Details

  • Ownership and engineering support of Windows infrastructure, including:
    • Active Directory
    • Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022
    • DFS
    • FTP

    • SQL Server infrastructure support at the instance level (not database administration)

Job Description

We are seeking a Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate shared cloud platforms that enable engineering teams to deliver software safely, reliably, and at scale. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft server environments and platforms to meet business needs, while identifying improvements and resolving performance issues; it emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams and participation in special projects .  The ideal candidate brings practical experience with Windows servers, virtualization, multi-cloud environments, infrastructure-as-code concepts, Microsoft Active Directory, security best practices, and automation tools such as PowerShell or Terraform, supported by strong troubleshooting skills.

Core Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and deploys platforms to support and meet business needs. Identifies, recommends, and implements opportunities for improvement and performance issue solutions.
  • Design and delivers cloud infrastructure via infrastructure as code, and pipeline automation to build, and support scalable platforms using modern cloud technologies.
  • Develops technical standards. Tests and evaluates technologies vendor products. Recommends vendor selections and new technologies.
  • Deploy, configure, and support Microsoft server environments and core services
  • Support global server environment, including configuration, performance troubleshooting, and escalated issues.
  • Participate in improving repeatability, reliability, and documentation of deployment processes.
  • Work closely with senior engineers, architects, and cross‑functional teams (networking, security, endpoint, service desk).
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years related work experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting Windows server and Virtualization Platforms required.
  • Hands‑on experience with Windows server, virtualized environments and multi-cloud hosting providers.
  • Working knowledge of IAC fundamentals.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Active Directory,  and/or Group Policy preferred.
  • Familiarity with industry security principles and practices
  • Basic experience with automation tools (PowerShell, Terraform, or similar) required.
  • Strong troubleshooting and operational support skills required.
