Job description

Duration: 03 Months
Working hours: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Classification Summary

The Crew Worker performs miscellaneous labor and maintenance duties for assigned City departments. Work is performed under close supervision, although many tasks are routine and require limited supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform public works duties including sweeping streets and sidewalks.
  • Blow and rake leaves and collect brush, garbage, and recycling.
  • Place caution signs and assist with traffic control at worksites.
  • Perform seasonal ice and snow removal activities.
  • Assist with vehicle body repairs, damaged part replacement, and painting.
  • Clean and organize fleet facilities and operate truck wash equipment.
  • Empty trash, sweep and mop floors, and clean restrooms.
  • Repair flat tires and handle scrap metal, parts, supplies, and mail.
  • Assist with golf course maintenance, mowing, watering, and landscaping.
  • Clean and maintain City buildings, facilities, and landscapes.
  • Operate cleaning equipment and perform window and carpet cleaning.
  • Assist with drainage, construction, road, and paving activities.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and small maintenance equipment.
  • Install chain-link fencing as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance and positive working relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Division-Specific Duties

  • Clean process equipment exposed to wastewater.
  • Assist with setup and operation of vacuum truck equipment.
  • Operate forklifts, telehandlers, aerial lifts, and scissor lifts.
  • Perform confined-space entries as required.
  • Enter wet wells, clarifier tanks, and other limited-access areas.
  • Operate pressure washers for cleaning silos, concrete, and lots.
  • Properly use required PPE, including Tyvek suits, face shields,
    safety glasses, gloves, hi-vis vests, rubber boots, and hard hats.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions.
  • Ability to understand simple processes and procedures.
  • Ability to routinely operate power tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Must have experience installing chain-link fencing.
  • Must maintain Tennessee residency from the date of hire.

Licensing and Certifications

  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License – Mandatory

Physical Requirements

  • The position requires physical activity including standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, climbing, working in confined spaces, and operating tools and industrial equipment. Employees must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
