Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Reconditioning/Detailer is responsible for cleaning and refurbishing new and used vehicles to dealership and manufacturer specifications within established time allowances. This role ensures that every vehicle meets presentation standards before being displayed for sale or delivered to a customer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Exterior Detailing

  • Wash vehicle exteriors, clean exterior windows, and wipe down door jambs

  • Apply wax to auto body surfaces and buff to a high-quality finish

  • Apply dressing to tires and tire wells

  • Apply special-purpose cleaners to remove foreign materials that normal cleaning procedures do not address, following product manufacturer recommendations

  • Use touch-up paint, dyes, and other materials to restore the appearance of painted surfaces as needed

Interior Detailing

  • Vacuum vehicle interiors to remove loose dirt and debris

  • Clean upholstery, rugs, and other interior surfaces using appropriate cleaning agents and devices

  • Apply revitalizers and preservation agents to interior vinyl or leather surfaces

  • Treat fabrics with spot- and stain-resistant chemicals

  • Clean engine and engine compartment with steam-cleaning equipment and appropriate cleaning agents

Vehicle Preparation & Inspection

  • Inspect vehicles for noticeable defects such as dents, scratches, torn upholstery, and poor mechanical operation

  • Fill vehicles with fuel as required

  • Ensure proper stickers are displayed in vehicle windows and remove all window stickers on sold vehicles

  • Maintain showroom and stock vehicles in a clean and presentable condition at all times

Safety & General

  • Use proper eye, hand, and body protection when working with products that require it

  • Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner

  • Report any safety issues immediately to management

  • Keep the work area neat and clean at all times

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Some knowledge of body and paint repair preferred

Skills & Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions

  • Ability to use a polishing wheel and buffer

  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record

  • Sound judgment and attention to detail

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a physically demanding position. Work requires standing, stooping, bending, and moving throughout the dealership. The individual will be required to wear a uniform daily. As this role is located in an automobile dealership, the individual may be exposed to elements associated with vehicle repair, painting, and maintenance.
