About the Role:

To support St. Clare of Assisi Parish, this position, under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance, assumes responsibility for general upkeep and cleaning of Parish buildings and grounds. Responsibilities include maintaining church, classrooms and meeting spaces, supporting the needs of parishioners, staff, and visitors. The individual selected for this position will have building and grounds maintenance knowledge, including working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and minor electrical work. The goal is to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for worship, learning, and community events.

Job Responsibilities:

• Church buildings and grounds to be cleaned and maintained in a manner that provides a healthy, safe and attractive physical environment.
• Performs plumbing, electrical, carpentry and other minor repair work on the facilities.
• Assists the Director of Maintenance with projects that may include climbing ladders and using tools. 
• Assists periodic janitorial and maintenance duties, i.e. floor waxing, painting, window washing, carpet cleaning, HVAC servicing, and lighting and pew maintenance as directed by the Director of Maintenance.
• Perform routine cleaning, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, washing windows, cleaning light fixtures and disinfecting surfaces.
• Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables throughout the campus.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, and fixtures.
• Maintain floors by sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing.
• Restock restroom and cleaning supplies as needed.
• Set up and break down rooms for parish events, including arranging tables, chairs, and equipment.
• Keep outdoor areas clean, including sweeping walkways and clearing trash from entryways and campus in general.
• Report safety hazards and needed repairs to the Maintenance Director.
• Lock and unlock doors and entry points as needed.
• Observe and report unauthorized access or unusual activity to Maintenance Director. 
• Ensure that doors, windows, and security systems are properly secured after use.
• Assist with moving equipment, unloading deliveries, and other operational tasks.
• Maintain storage rooms, storage areas, and work carts in clean and safe condition.
• Assisting Maintenance Director with projects as needed. This assistance requires climbing on ladders, knowledge of      plumbing and electrical systems and the ability to use tools effectively and safely.  

Additional Job Functions

• Any tasks assigned by the Director of Maintenance, or Pastor to meet changing needs, emergencies, or changing priorities to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and efficiency of the parish. 

Requirements

Job Requirements:

Must possess janitorial skills and general knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, sanitation, and janitorial supplies and their applications.

Working knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods and safety practices involved in building, grounds maintenance and repair, including, but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and painting.

Ability to maintain a cooperative attitude and effective working relationship with all departments, Church groups, employees, volunteers and Parishioners.

Ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimum supervision, with a strong attention to detail, and manage multiple tasks efficiently at the same time.

 -Able to read and follow verbal and written instructions.

Comfort working in various weather conditions for outdoor maintenance.

Ability to lift over 50 pounds without assistance and must be able to perform strenuous tasks.

Ability to move and use ladders, lifts, scaffolds and other related equipment.

Knowledge of hazards and safety work practices related to custodial care, building and campus maintenance. 

Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for parish events. 

Adherence to Safe Environment Training and diocesan guidelines for working in a parish setting.

-Ability to speak, read and understand English

Valid AZ driver's license.

Ability to pass a background check.

High School Diploma.
