What does a window cleaner do?

A window cleaner is responsible for cleaning the interior and exterior glass surfaces of buildings, including homes, offices, and high-rise structures. Their work involves removing dirt, smudges, and debris from windows using specialized tools and cleaning solutions. In addition to basic cleaning, window cleaners may also inspect windows for damage and report any issues. Safety is a key part of the job, especially when working at heights or with specialized equipment. Professional window cleaners help maintain the appearance and longevity of windows, improving both aesthetics and light entry.

Should I let the vinegar on windows sit or wipe off?

For window cleaning jobs, vinegar should be applied to the glass and then wiped off promptly with a clean cloth or squeegee to prevent streaks and residue. Allowing vinegar to sit too long can cause streaking and may damage certain window surfaces, so timely wiping is recommended for a professional finish.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Window Cleaner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Window Cleaner, you need good physical fitness, attention to detail, and basic knowledge of cleaning techniques, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with ladders, squeegees, water-fed poles, and safety harnesses, as well as understanding OSHA safety standards, is essential. Strong customer service, reliability, and the ability to work independently help you stand out in this position. What are some common challenges faced by window cleaners, and how can they be managed on the job?

Window cleaners often encounter challenges such as working at heights, dealing with various weather conditions, and ensuring streak-free finishes on different types of glass. Safety is paramount, so following proper protocols and using the right equipment—like harnesses and water-fed poles—is essential. Additionally, time management and customer communication are important for handling multiple jobs efficiently. Regular training and maintaining equipment can help minimize risks and improve work quality.

Do you need a license to clean windows?

In many areas, window cleaning professionals are not required to have a specific license, but some jurisdictions may require business permits or certifications. It is important for window cleaners to follow safety regulations and use proper equipment, especially when working at heights. Checking local regulations ensures compliance with any licensing or permit requirements for the job.

Job description

  • Outside Sales Representative - Commercial Accounts (KC Metro)
    Rigdon Inc. | Kansas City, MO/KS | Full-Time
$65,000-$95,000 expected first-year earnings (base + uncapped commission) | Company Vehicle Included
Are you a closer who'd rather be on the road than behind a desk?
Rigdon Inc. - a 30-year property maintenance company growing fast in KC - is looking for a sales rep to own the Kansas City metro area. You'll sell window cleaning, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, commercial handyman services, holiday lights, and more directly to large commercial accounts across the KC metro area.
Company vehicle. Real base salary. Bonus with no ceiling. And a territory that's wide open
What the job looks like day-to-day
You drive the KC Metro. You walk into businesses. You build relationships with property managers, facilities directors, and decision makers - and you close them on recurring service agreements. No cold calling lists. No cubicle. Just you, your vehicle, and a proven service that sells itself once people see the work.
    What we're offering
    - Base salary: depending on experience
    - Uncapped performance bonus
    - Company vehicle - yours to use daily for work purposes
    - Paid travel opportunities across all of our markets
    - Backing of a brand with 30+ years of reputation
    Who we want
    - 2+ years in outside or B2B sales (property services, facilities, or commercial a plus)
    - You generate your own leads - you don't wait for someone to hand them to you
    - Experience targeting large commercial accounts: churches, restaurants, hotels, and standalone businesses
    - Driver's license and a good driving record
    - Strong closer who can build trust fast and follow through
    Why is this role different
Most sales jobs hand you a phone and a quota. This one hands you a vehicle and a territory. KC is growing. Large commercial properties need maintenance. And we don't have enough people to keep up with the opportunity.
If you can sell and you want to be rewarded for it, this is the job.
