SUMMARY

To succeed as a Field Service Wind Turbine Technician, you'll need to be open to travel to customer wind farms for long periods of time, work independently, have great communication skills, and be well organized. We are looking for a motivated individual with a technical background in servicing wind turbines. The Field Service Technician will provide hands on service and aftermarket support for our customers in North America (worldwide, if needed). He or she will also support our claims and quality department in North America (worldwide, if needed). The candidate for this position will work closely with our management team based in Denver, CO. If you're equipped with Basic Safety Training (BST), Basic Technical Training (BTT), and Advanced Rescue Training (ART) certifications from the Global Wind Organization (GWO), consider this a step ahead!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ability to do 100% Travel - This role requires extensive travel throughout the United States. Candidates may be based anywhere in the U.S.; however, frequent domestic travel is expected. A valid passport is required.
  • Field Service Technician will travel to support various scopes of work across US, and possibly Mexico and Canada. The Technician must be competent to work on wind turbines. Specific trainings and electrical / mechanical competencies are an asset.
  • Technician must climb wind turbines (upwards of 130m) to perform diagnostic testing, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs to mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components/systems.

  • Complete various reports, checklists, and hazard analysis as it pertains to job scope.
  • Participate in company and customer HSE/training programs.
  • Deliver exceptional customer experience/service to our partners in the industry.
  • Follow and implement work procedures for specific scopes of work to inspect, repair, and maintain Wind Turbine components
  • Populate, track and communicate client and company documentation on a daily basis
  • Maintain a clean work area, equipment, and tooling
  • Maintain required training certifications for position (Fall Protection/Rescue Training,, LOTO, First Aid/CPR/AED) etc.

  • Properly Prepare for each service visit:
    • Investigate scope of work (check with local applications engineer)
    • Gather and review Manuals and Drawings
    • Request pictures and information from site (as needed)
    • Request customer personnel if necessary
  • Perform service while onsite including but not limited to:
    • Verify the brakes, discs, and hydraulic systems are properly installed/integrated
    • Trouble shoot and fault finding during various service jobs
    • Check existing brake system during regular service visits
    • Groove discs in wind turbine
  • Post Service Visit
    • Write detailed, high quality reports incl. recommended spare parts
    • Upsell spare parts while on service jobs
  • Secure service contracts with customers
  • Perform field claim jobs
  • Put training programs together for customers
  • Ad hoc assignments that normally occurs in a small office
Critical Competencies
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Ability to listen to customers wants, needs and expectations
    • Stay on site during service visits until client releases us
  • Technical understanding and background knowledge of wind turbines required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (as minimum Excel, Word and Power Point)
  • Customer Service skills (e.g. ability to communicate with customers promptly)
  • Ability to work in a team environment and share information among peers
  • Ability to handle deadlines and stressful situations
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred, or combination of education and experience to be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Or a Wind Program Graduate; GWO certification highly preferred
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience

Physical Requirements

  • Comfort with Heights: Must be able to climb wind turbine towers up to 300 feet and work confidently at elevated heights for extended periods.
  • Strength and Endurance: Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and tools weighing up to 50-75 lbs regularly. Must have the stamina to work long shifts, often in remote or outdoor environments.
  • Mobility and Flexibility: Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach in confined or awkward spaces. Good range of motion and physical agility are required.
  • Environmental Tolerance: Ability to work in varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain while wearing required safety gear.
  • Vision and Hearing: Adequate visual acuity (corrective lenses acceptable) and hearing ability to safely operate tools, read instruments, and communicate effectively in noisy environments.
  • Safety Compliance: Required to safely access, reach, and perform required tasks while using mandatory safety equipment. Must be able to wear and operate personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses, helmets, gloves, and fall protection systems. Completion of safety training, including CPR and first aid, may be required.
  • Physical Fit for Tower Access: Must be able to safely ascend, descend, and work within wind turbine towers while utilizing all required fall protection and safety equipment. Candidates must be able to properly fit and use company-approved harnesses, ladders, climbing systems, and other personal protective equipment in accordance with safety standards and manufacturer specifications.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring company sponsorship to obtain or keep U.S. work authorization.

$33.00 - $36.00 per hour, with opportunities for overtime pay.

The hourly range provided is intended to display the value of the company's base pay compensation for this position. Salary is dependent on a multitude of factors, including but not limited to the physical worksite location, the geographic market of that location, candidate's skill set, level of experience, education and internal peer compensation comparisons among other potential factors.
