POSITION SUMMARY

Panorama Energy Services (PES) is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to lead and support Major Component Exchange (MCE) work across our wind turbine service portfolio. This individual will serve as a senior field-level technical authority on GE, Vestas, Acciona/Nordex, and Siemens (Siemens Gamesa) platforms, combining hands-on mechanical expertise with strong leadership, communication, and process-development skills. The Field Engineer will diagnose and resolve field execution issues, build training and process solutions that prevent recurrence, and lead recovery efforts on catastrophic and complex events where limited technical direction exists. This role works in close partnership with the Methods and Process Engineer, EHS Management, and Resource Managers to strengthen safety, quality, and operational performance across PES field teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute and provide hands-on leadership for major component exchanges (gearboxes, generators, main bearings, blades, yaw/pitch systems, etc.) on GE, Vestas, Acciona/Nordex, and Siemens wind turbine platforms.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and site maintenance, diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in the field with limited technical direction.
  • Lead response and recovery efforts for catastrophic events (e.g., major component failures, crane incidents, structural damage), coordinating technical strategy, resourcing, and safe execution under pressure.
  • Diagnose recurring field team execution issues and root-cause performance gaps; translate findings into corrective action and preventive programs.
  • Design, document, and deliver technician training programs that build competency and prevent recurrence of identified issues.
  • Develop and refine field processes, procedures, and work instructions in partnership with the Methods and Process Engineer to standardize execution across crews and platforms.
  • Design and fabricate small tooling solutions to improve safety, efficiency, or quality of field execution.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on EHS aspects of wind turbine maintenance, reinforcing Stop Work Authority, hazard recognition, and safe work practices in the field.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on quality aspects of major component work, ensuring adherence to OEM specifications, torque/tension standards, and PES quality requirements.
  • Partner with EHS Management on incident investigations, corrective/preventive action (CAPA), and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with Resource Managers on crew readiness, staffing needs, technician development planning, and apprentice field validation.
  • Provide clear, timely written and verbal communication to project managers, clients, and internal leadership on job status, risks, and technical findings.
  • Maintain on-call availability to support field teams with technical guidance when not deployed on-site.
  • Model and enforce PES safety culture, quality standards, and professional conduct on every job site.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7–10 years of hands-on experience executing major component exchanges, troubleshooting, and site maintenance on wind turbines.
  • Demonstrated field experience across multiple OEM platforms: GE, Vestas, Acciona/Nordex, and Siemens (Siemens Gamesa).
  • Verifiable leadership experience directing field crews or technical teams, including in high-pressure or emergency-response situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues for both field crews and leadership audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience developing processes, procedures, and work instructions for field operations.
  • Experience designing or fabricating small tooling solutions to solve field execution challenges.
  • Subject matter expertise in EHS aspects of wind turbine maintenance (fall protection, LOTO, crane/rigging awareness, Stop Work Authority, etc.).
  • Subject matter expertise in quality aspects of wind turbine maintenance (torque/tension standards, OEM specifications, inspection and documentation requirements).
  • Proven ability to diagnose systemic field execution issues and build training or programmatic solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Current GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT), Basic Safety Training (BST), and Advanced Rescue Training (ART).
  • Ability to travel approximately 75% and to be available on-call when not deployed to a field site.
  • Ability to work at height, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions consistent with wind turbine field work.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint), and ability to learn other applications (Novara, Raken, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • OEM-specific technical training/certifications (GE, Vestas, Nordex/Acciona, Siemens Gamesa).
  • Experience with wind turbine control/drivetrain/generator systems and specialized MCE tooling.
  • Prior experience in a Field Engineer, Technical Advisor, or Crew Lead role supporting multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems and calibrated torque/tension tool programs.
  • Experience supporting root-cause/SCAR (Supplier/Site Corrective Action Request) processes.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This role works cross-functionally on a regular basis with:

  • Methods and Process Engineer – to standardize and improve field procedures and work instructions.
  • EHS Management – to reinforce safety standards, support investigations, and drive corrective/preventive actions.
  • Resource Managers – to align technician staffing, training needs, and crew readiness with project demands.
  • Project Managers and Operations Leadership – to report job status, risks, and resource needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to climb wind turbine towers (typically 260–500+ ft) using fixed ladders, climb-assist systems, or service lifts.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver tools and components consistent with MCE work, following proper rigging and lifting practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear and work in required personal protective equipment (PPE), including fall protection, for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel extensively (~75%), including extended stays at remote project sites.
