Job Description

About the Team: The Service Technician role within ZF's Wind Power Technology business unit is part of a small, highly skilled team based out of Vernon Hills, IL. Reporting to the Wind Field Service Manager, this technician will work alongside two other experienced service technicians, supporting customers across the U.S. and Canada. The position involves extensive travel (approximately 80-100%) to perform on-site wind turbine repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting, playing a critical role in ensuring reliable operation and customer satisfaction in the field.

What you can look forward to as a Wind Field Service Technician:

  • Utilize heating, cutting torches, hydraulic presses, high pressure extraction devices, heavy power tools, and liquid nitrogen to remove couplings and disassemble high pressure joints.
  • Rig Heavy Industrial Equipment on and off vehicles with overhead cranes and level and align machine for testing with motor.
  • Mark matched components and label disassembled parts. Sketch part assembly diagram with enough organization for another tech to reassemble with minimal questioning.
  • Clean parts via power wash or hands for inspection team review.
  • Disassemble and reassemble all machine components including bearings and couplings and high-pressure joints (4000 bar).
  • Create and document failure analysis reports.
  • Performs trouble-shooting and final testing.
  • Identify field failures, communicate with customer, schedule repairs in the field, and make travel arrangements and create expense reports upon return.

Your profile as a Wind Field Service Technician:

  • High School Diploma or GED required and 5+ years of hands on mechanical repair and inspection experience. 
  • Previous experience with field service travel.
  • Must be able to climb 300 feet with 35 lbs of gear and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work alone.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Experience in the wind industry and/or its products preferred.
