What The Role Is
Reporting to the Lead Technician, the Wind Technician is responsible for assisting in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electric component maintenance. The primary objective is to maintain safe, effective, efficient, and profitable wind turbine operation.

What You'll Be Doing
Trainee
  • Follow safety procedures, observe safe working practices, and maintain a safe working environment under direct supervision.
  • Shadow and assist experienced technicians in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance.
  • Document all work performed, parts used, and time spent using computer-based service reporting procedures.
  • Maintain hand tools in good working order and well organized.
  • Operate and maintain a service vehicle.
  • Work a flexible on-call schedule when needed. This may include weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and accept guidance from supervising technicians and site leadership.
  • Must pass an advancement exam and oral board upon training program completion within six (6) months from hire.
  • Other duties as assigned within the Trainee scope.

Level I (Additions)
  • Assist in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repair of SCADA communication systems.
  • Willingness to progress as a technician and take guidance from superiors.
  • Help in all areas of site operations as directed by Site Lead and Site Manager with minimal supervision.
  • Must pass an advancement exam and oral board upon training program completion within six (6) months from hire.
  • Other duties as assigned within the level I scope

Level II & III (Additions)
  • Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed wind turbines.
  • Assist in the training and development of lower level operation and maintenance personnel.
  • Perform all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair and replacement to correct malfunctions.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Use electrical test equipment to assist in troubleshooting and testing.
  • Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary.
  • Safely perform LOTO and mentor lower level technicians in LOTO.
  • Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required.
  • Must pass an advancement exam and oral board upon training program completion within six (6) months from hire.
  • Other duties as assigned within the level II or III scope respectively
What You'll Bring
Trainee
  • A high school diploma or GED required, or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet. Job will require standing outside the nacelle and nosecone at the top of the turbine. Able to work safely in a confined space.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Demonstrable mechanical aptitude; no prior electrical experience required.
  • Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
  • Able to travel as required.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use various hand tools.
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Able to create, edit, or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents.

Level I (Additions)
  • Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge gained through direct work experience. Qualifying backgrounds include: electrical work in a construction trade, employment in a power generation or utility environment, or experience as a licensed or apprentice electrician. Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color-coded wires.
  • Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred.
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing and able to work without direct supervision during performance of work.
  • Able to meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group's Qualified Electrical Worker program.

Level II (Additions)
  • An Associate's degree (electrical or technical) and six months turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and one-year wind turbine experience
  • Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color coded wires.
  • Have an in depth understanding of the different components of the wind turbine including the electrical pitch system, computerized control system, and the power conversion unit as well as knowledge and understanding of OEM approved mechanical maintenance methods and practices.
  • Possess the skills to perform mechanical and electrical equipment repairs.

Level III (Additions)
  • An Associate's degree (electrical or technical) and two years turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and three-year wind turbine experience
What Would Be Nice
  • Previous experience in SAP is preferred.

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law. This role is eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.
