How much do wind farm survey jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 12, 2026, the average hourly pay for wind farm survey in the United States is $25.27, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.03 and $29.81 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Wind Farm Surveyor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Wind Farm Surveyor, you need expertise in land surveying, mapping techniques, and a relevant qualification such as a degree in surveying, geography, or engineering. Familiarity with GIS software, GPS equipment, and data analysis tools is typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for this role. These skills ensure accurate site assessments, regulatory compliance, and successful project planning in the renewable energy sector.

What qualifications do you need to work on a wind farm?

To work as a wind farm surveyor or technician, candidates typically need a relevant technical or engineering qualification, such as a diploma or degree in renewable energy, environmental science, or engineering. Additionally, skills in data collection, environmental assessment, and familiarity with survey tools or software are important; safety certifications like OSHA or equivalent are often required. Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions are also essential.

How much do you get paid per wind turbine on your land?

Wind farm surveyors typically earn between $20 and $40 per hour, which can translate to several thousand dollars per turbine depending on the project's size and complexity. Compensation may also include project-based bonuses or per-turbine payments for specific survey tasks, and familiarity with GIS tools and safety certifications can impact pay rates.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Wind Farm Surveyor, and how does this role interact with other project teams?

A Wind Farm Surveyor typically spends their days collecting site data, conducting land and environmental surveys, and preparing detailed maps and reports essential for wind farm planning and construction. The role requires frequent collaboration with engineers, environmental consultants, and project managers to ensure that site layouts are accurate and compliant with regulations. Surveyors also often liaise with landowners and local authorities, making strong communication and organizational skills key. The work environment can involve both office-based analysis and significant time outdoors, sometimes in challenging weather conditions.

Which state is no. 1 in wind energy?

The leading state in wind energy production is Texas, which has the largest installed wind power capacity in the United States. Wind farm survey professionals often work in regions with significant wind resources, such as Texas, to assess site potential and ensure proper turbine placement.

How much do wind farm workers make?

Wind farm workers typically earn between $40,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and specific roles such as technicians or engineers. Entry-level positions may start lower, while specialized roles with certifications and technical skills tend to pay more. Overtime and on-call work are common in this industry.

What is the difference between Wind Farm Survey vs Wind Turbine Technician?

AspectWind Farm SurveyWind Turbine Technician
CertificationsSurveying licenses, GIS certificationsElectrical, mechanical, or wind turbine-specific certifications
Work EnvironmentOutdoor, fieldwork at project sites, often in remote areasOn-site at wind turbines, maintenance and troubleshooting
Job FocusSite assessment, mapping, and planning for wind farm developmentOperating, maintaining, and repairing wind turbines

While both roles are essential in the wind energy industry, Wind Farm Surveyors focus on site assessment and planning, whereas Wind Turbine Technicians handle the operation and maintenance of turbines. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right career path in the wind energy sector.

What is a Wind Farm Survey?

A wind farm survey is the process of assessing a site to determine its suitability for the development of a wind farm. This involves gathering data on wind speed and direction, land topography, environmental impacts, and proximity to existing infrastructure. Surveys are conducted both before construction to evaluate feasibility and during operation for maintenance and monitoring purposes. The information collected helps developers design efficient wind farms and ensure compliance with regulations.
