United Way for Greater Austin brings our community together to break economic barriers and build opportunity for all. We break the cycle of economic hardships for families and individuals, striving to create a vibrant, thriving community. Recognizing the urgency of addressing economic challenges, we focus on increasing the availability of high-quality early care and education and access to pivotal resources to address financial barriers in Central Texas. Our united front includes dedicated donors, volunteers, corporate and civic partners, staff, and a connected network of neighbors. Together, we leverage data, community alliances, services, and public engagement to transform Central Texas, responding to urgent needs with lasting, impactful solutions.


Who we want:


We are looking for a motivated undergraduate intern to support the Williamson County Success By 6 Coalition. This internship is ideal for students in public policy, advocacy, early childhood education, or the nonprofit sector. As an intern, you will contribute to advocacy, community engagement, and policy research efforts that advance the well-being of young children (ages 0-6) and their families in Williamson County.ย 


What you'll do:

  • Support the development of the Williamson County Success By 6 advocacy agenda.
  • Collaborate with coalition members to establish and strengthen an advocacy workgroup.
  • Assist in researching and developing advocacy training modules.
  • Create and maintain a calendar of key local and state government dates and deadlines.
  • Help organize advocacy toolkits, contact lists, and focus area initiatives.ย 
  • Research current state and local policy on early childhood education and family support issues.
  • Attend virtual meetings, webinars, or policy discussions as appropriate.

What you'll bring:

  • Interest in public policy, advocacy, nonprofit work, or early childhood issues.
  • Some knowledge of state and local government functions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.ย 
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people.ย 
  • Ability to attend meetings when requested.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of advocacy processes or willingness to learn.ย 
  • Commitment to improving the lives of young children and families.
  • Previous experience in childcare.
