Job description

Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Summary The Volunteer shall assist the Hays County Health Department in supporting community outreach, public health initiatives, and event coordination.

Performs a variety of administrative and community-facing tasks, gradually increasing in level of responsibility as the Volunteer receives on-the-job training related to public health programs, behavioral health initiatives, and community engagement efforts. Responsibilities Assists with setup, coordination, and breakdown of community health events and outreach activities. Supports distribution of public health materials, resources, and information to community members.

Assures services delivered meet quality, professionalism, and timeliness standards. Enters, organizes, and tracks outreach data and event participation information. Assists with organizing materials, supplies, and resource inventories.

Documents and files materials related to outreach, events, and programming. Interacts daily with staff, community partners, and the public. Assists with behavioral health and public health projects as assigned.

Performs a variety of duties related to community outreach strategies, health education, and program implementation while learning the mission, structure, and operations of the Health Department. Supports community engagement efforts including mental health awareness, prevention programming, and health promotion initiatives. Effectively utilizes standard office software (data management, spreadsheets, presentations, and word processing) in completing assigned projects.

May assist with logistical or administrative tasks during peak event periods. Performs other duties as assigned. May attend community meetings, coalition meetings, or public health events as needed.

Education and/or Experience Interest or experience in Public Health, Behavioral Health, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred. Experience with community service, outreach, or volunteer work is a plus. Experience with personal computers and basic software applications.
