Job description

Maintenance Worker (Maintenance 1)

Location: 4550 126th. Ave N, Clearwater, FL 33762

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Apply to be a proud employee of the Pinellas County Public Works Maintenance team responsible for maintenance related services that help us in our vision is to be the standard for public service in America. 

Pinellas County Government is currently hiring a Maintenance 1 or 2 who is responsible for all labor tasks such as hand cleaning ditches, spot tree trimming, trash and debris removal. Additional responsibilities include preparing vehicles each morning with supplies.

What Would You Do?

  • Follow work cycles for hand cleaning ditches, debris and trash pick up.
  • Complete assigned work request such as spot tree trimming, weed eating and debris removal in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to find locations using a map book or GPS.
  • This position requires working outdoors most of the work day, performing physical labor, exposure to the elements (heat, rain) and encountering wild life.

 

What Do You Need To Have?

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Commercial Driver's License "B" within 1 year of hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
  • Must obtain a Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) certification within 1 year of appointment.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
  • Required to report in emergency situations to work, which includes Storms, Hurricanes, etc.

Maintenance 1

  • Completion of the ninth school grade; or
  • 6 months of experience as a laborer, groundskeeping or field trades related work; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

Maintenance 2

  • 1 year of experience as a laborer, groundskeeping or field trades related work; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • CDL B or equivalent 

 

Highly Desirable

  • Ability to operate small equipment such as chainsaw and other related equipment.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in general maintenance work.
  • Ability to recognize safety hazards and take precautionary methods to protect self and others.
  • Ability to meet the public, give information regarding facilities and regulations.
  • Ability to do heavy manual labor for extended periods, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
