Job description

Location: Waubun-Ogema-White Earth School District
Pay: $20.33/hour
Position Type: Substitute/On-Call
Status: Open Until Filled


Waubun-Ogema-White Earth School District is seeking an on-call custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and community members. This role is essential in ensuring our facilities are well-prepared for daily educational activities, as well as extracurricular events.

Job Summary

To ensure school buildings and grounds are clean, safe, and functional, supporting effective teaching, learning, and school operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Event Setup: Prepare spaces for school events and activities in a timely manner.
  • Classroom Cleaning: Trash removal, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and sanitizing desks, windows, whiteboards, and other surfaces.
  • Restroom Sanitation: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, and partitions; restock supplies as needed.
  • Common Area Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness of hallways, gyms, and other shared spaces.
  • Summer Deep Cleaning: Strip, seal, and wax floors; dust, clean furniture, and electronics.
  • Basic Maintenance: Assist with minor repairs, painting, adjusting lockers, and fixing furniture.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred but Not Required:

  • Prior custodial or facility maintenance experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and tools
  • Basic knowledge of safety procedures for handling cleaning supplies
  • Familiarity with general maintenance practices
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings if needed

Working Conditions

  • Varying noise levels; occasional exposure to dust, chemicals, bodily fluids, and extreme temperatures
  • Occasional work at heights; must follow proper safety and lifting protocols

Expectations & Outcomes

  • Maintain a positive and respectful attitude with students, staff, and visitors
  • Contribute to a safe, clean, and functional learning environment
  • Report facility issues promptly to reduce future repair needs
  • Promote safety and help secure the facility from damage or theft
