Job description

The Watchmaker's responsibilities include authenticating luxury watches and fine jewelry while conducting thorough inspections for quality and originality. Additionally, the Watchmaker will be responsible for maintaining flow of inventory, organizing research and data collection, sharing product knowledge, collaborating and coordinating with other teams, and staying up to date on industry developments within the luxury watch sector.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Authenticate luxury watches and fine jewelry.
  • Inspect setting styles, clasp mechanisms, hinges, and overall weight/proportions. Ensure the physical construction aligns with the era of production, collection, and brand standards.
  • Accurately identify colored stones and diamonds using GIA evaluation techniques, determine precious metal purity, and accurately date jewelry pieces.
  • Analyze maker’s marks, hallmarks, purity stamps, copyright symbols, serial numbers, etc. Identify subtle differences in typography, spacing, engraving and proportion that separate authentic variation from counterfeit items.
  • Assess functionality, condition and quality and perform basic service, repair, battery replacement and movement adjustment as needed to meet the company standard.
  • Coordinate flow of inventory with buying, receiving, quality control and allocation teams.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of fine jewelry & watch experience with GIA Certification (DG or GG).
  • Strong authentication skills.
  • Deep product knowledge of luxury watch brands including Rolex, Cartier, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille, Piaget and more.
  • Experience with diamonds and colored stones.
  • Strong research skills, attention to detail, and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on-site in Jersey City, NJ.
  • Vision, depth of field perception, magnification, and color perception (Red,Green,Amber).
