Work Shift
Job Summary:
The Wellstar Health System Medical Director of Quality will provide physician leadership support regarding Quality, Safety, and Experience for the system. on a part-time basis. (Approx: 20 hours per week). This role will serve as a key partner to the VP of Quality and Safety, AVPs of Quality and Safety, and AVP of Patient Experience in advancing Wellstar Health System's quality, safety, and experience initiatives. The individual will also play an integral role in supporting hospitals, ambulatory care practices, and service lines to achieve the mission of providing world-class healthcare to every patient, every time. The individual should be well-versed in quality, safety, and patient experience principles and have a track record of success in leading quality projects.
The ideal candidate should be adept in utilizing data, collaborating with data analytics teams, working with electronic medical records, and leveraging clinical databases to drive improvements.
Additionally, this individual will be responsible for providing oversight and activities that ensure optimal stewardship of Wellstar Health System resources in partnership and coordination with Wellstar Health System Service Line Leaders and Medical Directors. The individual will provide leadership regarding Wellstar Health System's focus on the quadruple aim of the right care, at the right time, in the right place, and with the right experience for both patients and providers. This role will serve as a critical leader and expert in equitable healthcare access, delivery, and outcomes.
This position comes with an 50% effort support to work on the duties of the Medical Director of Quality The other of 50% effort can be comprised of other duties and roles such as, but not limited to, patient care, research, and education.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Quality
Work in partnership with the System VP, AVPs of Quality and Safety, and AVP for Patient Experience to drive quality improvement initiatives aimed at reducing all harm events, healthcare-associated conditions, and improving health outcomes.
Participate in professional practice and peer review committees to provide administrative oversight as needed.
Collaborate with medical directors, CMO, ACMO, and service line leaders to advance the system's goals of providing world-class healthcare.
Work with the accreditation and regulatory team to ensure continual readiness and success in Joint Commission surveys, disease-specific certifications, and facility accreditation.
Assist and provide leadership during site visits for accreditation and surveys.
Provide leadership for the Performance Improvement Committee as an administrative representative to commission action and offer physician leadership.
Collaborate and help direct Business Intelligence efforts to deliver data analytics that drive quality and safety.
Safety
Provide leadership and guidance, offering a physician's perspective regarding safety events.
Serve as the system champion and leader for team member, visitor, and patient safety.
Assist safety coordinators and/or managers with conducting interviews, investigations, apparent cause, and root cause analysis.
Ensure accountability for strong action items derived from analysis and their full deployment.
Patient Experience
Collaborate with the patient experience team to advance the goals of providing world-class healthcare through best patient experience practices.
Quality and Safety Data Analytics
Provide leadership and expertise regarding quality and safety databases such as Vizient, NHSN, CMS star rating, Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, etc.
Collaborate with system BI and EPIC teams to develop and enhance quality and safety dashboards.
Work with EPIC teams to enhance and improve workflows, reports, and dashboards with a focus on improving quality and safety.
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
  • Doctorate Medicine or Doctorate Osteopathic Medicine (MD or DO)

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • DO - Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or MD - Medical Doctor

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
CPHQ - Cert Prof Healthcare Quality Upon Hire Preferred or
CPPS - Cert Prof in Patient Safety Upon Hire Preferred or
Masters degree in business administration, health administration, or other equivalent degree Upon Hire Preferred
Vizient Experience - Highly Preferred
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 5 years or more experience as a practicing physician is required
Required Minimum Skills:
Excellent physician relations skills. Skills in relationship development and collaboration across a matrix environment to establish standardization of care and coordinated plans medical case review and program development.
Proven, effective, and innovative expertise, experience, and skills gained within organizations known for leading edge medical management program development and a commitment to excellence.
A strong customer focus while operating with a positive "can-do" philosophy and be a person of highest level of integrity.
The ability to develop and implement long and short-range goals and plans; strategic development, program evaluation, and execution of programs and services to achieve quality standards.
Excellent understanding of clinical and technology trends related to the delivery of healthcare services.
Excellent communication skills verbal, written, listening, and presentation along with the confidence to favorably represent the organization in both formal and informal settings.
A leadership style, which emphasizes personal accountability and visibility within the system and within the community.
