What are some common challenges faced by Welding Helpers on job sites?

Welding Helpers often work in physically demanding environments where safety and attention to detail are critical. Common challenges include managing heavy materials, working in confined or awkward spaces, and coping with high temperatures or exposure to fumes. Additionally, Welding Helpers must coordinate closely with welders and other team members to ensure projects stay on schedule and meet quality standards. Maintaining clear communication and adhering to strict safety protocols can help overcome these challenges and contribute to a successful team environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Welding Helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Welding Helper, you need basic knowledge of welding processes, safety procedures, and manual dexterity, often gained through a high school diploma or on-the-job training. Familiarity with hand tools, grinders, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is common, and OSHA safety certification can be advantageous. Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions help Welding Helpers excel in supporting welders and maintaining a safe work environment. These skills are crucial to ensure the quality of work, efficiency, and safety on the job site.

We're looking for people who put their innovation to work to advance our success - and their own. Join an organization that ensures a more secure world through connecting and protecting our customers with inventive electrical solutions.
We're looking for an experienced Field Service Technician to join our team and support projects at power plants and industrial sites across the U.S.
This is a field-focused role where your expertise in construction environments, and hands-on mechanical skills will make a direct impact on our customers and project success.
To ensure full transparency, please note the following:
  • 75% travel is mandatory. This includes overnights, extended field assignments, and occasional short-notice assignments. (All expenses paid)

  • Field work often involves emergency or unscheduled tasks, and hours may vary based on project demands.

  • Overtime or double-time may be available during field assignments, in line with company policy and applicable wage laws.

  • A 20% field-work premium applies when working at remote job sites.

  • When not in the field, you will work in the shop to ensure consistent employment in between assignments (Permanent Role, not Contract Work)

WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS POSITION
  • Coordinate tools, materials, and equipment for the jobsite to keep projects running smoothly and on schedule.

  • Work closely with customers and subcontractors on-site, representing our company with professionalism and strong communication.

  • Complete required safety processes, including Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) prior to any work.

  • Conduct welding inspections, repairs, and troubleshooting based on company procedures and project needs.

  • Provide the project manager with daily updates on progress, challenges, and any changes that may impact scope or timeline.

  • Help manage project costs by submitting accurate field documentation, receipts, and reports on time.

  • When not assigned to field work, perform welding and fabrication tasks in the shop to maintain steady hours and continuous employment.

YOU HAVE
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, tape measurements, and fabrication drawings.

  • Prior leadership, crew coordination, or field supervision experience

  • The ability to work hours based on business needs, not guaranteed to follow a standard schedule.

  • AWS 6G MIG aluminum welding certification (preferred)

  • Willingness to participate in OSHA 30 training (required)

  • Forklift/man-lift operator training certification

  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record (required)

  • Willingness and ability to travel 75% of the time, often to remote power plants and industrial job sites.

  • Ability to use basic technology and software, including Tablets, laptops, and Microsoft Office Products.

  • Physical ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions; stand, walk, kneel, climb, and lift to 50 lbs. regularly.

  • Strong focus on safety, quality, and communication with customers, subcontractors, and internal teams.

WE HAVE:
  • A dynamic global reach with diverse operations around the world that will stretch your abilities, provide plentiful career opportunities, and allow you to make an impact every day
