Job Description

We are seeking an experienced AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to perform structural steel inspection services on commercial, industrial, and public works construction projects. The successful candidate will conduct shop and field inspections of structural steel welding, bolting, and nondestructive testing activities while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform shop and field inspections of structural steel welding and bolting activities.
  • Verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, AWS standards, and applicable building codes.
  • Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Perform and document welding inspections in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Coordinate and review nondestructive testing (NDT) activities and results.
  • Read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and code requirements.
  • Prepare accurate daily reports, inspection documentation, and project records.
  • Maintain complete and organized project files, including reports, field notes, correspondence, RFIs, and supporting documentation.
  • Communicate inspection findings and project updates to project managers, contractors, engineers, and client representatives.
  • Identify and document non-conforming work and verify corrective actions when required.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to support inspection activities throughout the region.
  • Perform inspections in accordance with company quality standards and safety procedures.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • UT Shear Wave Level II certification required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction quality assurance, welding inspection, special inspections, or related construction services.
  • Thorough knowledge of structural steel welding, bolting, and applicable AWS codes and standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and building code requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for project assignments.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete background screening and drug testing requirements, if applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Welding Technology, or a related field.
  • Additional NDT certifications (MT, PT, RT, VT, or other Level II/III certifications).
  • ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector certification.
  • ICC Structural Steel Welding Special Inspector certification.
  • Experience performing inspections on large commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or public works projects.
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.1, AISC requirements, and applicable building codes.

Locations: Phoenix, AZ or Salt Lake City, UT and willing to travel throughout Utah and Arizona
