What does a welding company do?

A welding company specializes in joining metal parts together using various welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, or arc welding. These companies often work on construction projects, manufacturing, repairs, and custom fabrication for industries like automotive, aerospace, and infrastructure. Welding companies may also offer services such as metal cutting, brazing, and metal finishing. Their skilled professionals ensure strong, durable, and precise metal joints for a variety of applications.

What are some common challenges welders face when working for a welding company, and how can they overcome them?

Welders in a welding company often encounter challenges such as working in confined or awkward spaces, exposure to extreme temperatures, and maintaining precision under time constraints. To overcome these, many welders prioritize safety by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and following strict safety protocols. Additionally, collaborating closely with team members and supervisors helps ensure quality and efficiency, especially on larger or more complex projects. Regular training and staying updated on industry best practices also contribute to overcoming technical and environmental challenges on the job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a welding company, and why are they important?

To thrive in a welding company, strong technical skills in various welding techniques, blueprint reading, and a relevant certification (such as AWS Certified Welder) are essential. Familiarity with welding equipment, safety protocols, and quality control systems is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork are key soft skills that set top performers apart. These competencies are crucial for ensuring high-quality workmanship, workplace safety, and efficient project completion in welding operations.

Job description

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The Welder is a key position at our Benson Plant. This role applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, and repair metal parts and assemblies, as specified by work orders or production drawings.
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you'll primarily work with a small team of machine operators and welders.
A highlight of your day-to-day will include:
  • Fabricating metal parts and assemblies by cutting, burning, and welding various metals using welding machines, oxyacetylene torches, plasma cutters, and hand and power tools.
  • Operating cranes, forklifts, and other lifting equipment when certified.
  • Inspecting completed work to ensure conformance to specifications, including dimensional accuracy, squareness, and weld requirements.
  • Performing first-part approvals on new tasks to ensure quality standards are met.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You're motivated, reliable, and take pride in doing quality work. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and bring hands-on welding experience along with a strong understanding of tools and precision measurement.
You don't take shortcuts-especially when it comes to safety. You look out for yourself and your team, and you hold your work to a high standard.
You're also able to read and interpret production drawings, set up welding equipment, and consistently monitor the quality of your work.
Most importantly, you're not just looking for your next job-you're looking to build a career. You want to grow your skills and be part of a company that invests in its people. At Jensen, everyone matters.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Welder
  • Forklift Certification
  • Some coursework after high school
  • 1-2 years of welding experience
