How much do welding assembly jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 24, 2026, the average hourly pay for welding assembly in the United States is $29.79, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $23.32 and $34.13 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A welding assembly technician can earn around $10,000 a month with experience, specialized skills, and working in high-demand industries such as aerospace or oil and gas. These roles often require technical training, certifications, and the ability to operate complex equipment in manufacturing or construction environments.

Why do welders drink milk after welding?

Welders often drink milk after welding because it helps soothe the throat and reduce irritation caused by inhaling welding fumes and smoke. Milk contains proteins that can coat the throat and may provide temporary relief from dryness or soreness common in welding environments. However, it is not a substitute for proper respiratory protection and safety measures.

What do welder assemblers do?

Welder assemblers combine welding skills with assembly work to construct, repair, or modify metal structures and components. They operate welding equipment, follow technical drawings, and ensure quality standards are met, often working in manufacturing or construction environments. Certification in welding techniques and safety procedures is typically required.

What is the difference between Welding Assembly vs Welding Fabricator?

AspectWelding AssemblyWelding Fabricator
CertificationsWelding certifications (e.g., AWS)Welding certifications (e.g., AWS)
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, assembly linesFabrication shops, custom metalwork facilities
Job FocusAssembling pre-made componentsCreating and shaping metal parts from raw materials
Industry UsageAutomotive, appliance manufacturingStructural, industrial, and custom metal projects

Welding Assembly involves putting together pre-fabricated parts using welding techniques, often in manufacturing settings. Welding Fabricator focuses on creating metal components from raw materials, shaping and welding them into custom or structural products. While both roles require welding certifications and share similar environments, their primary tasks differ—assembly versus fabrication.

Can you make $100,000 as a welder?

Welding assembly jobs can offer high earning potential, especially for experienced welders with specialized skills, certifications, and in high-demand industries like construction or manufacturing. Salaries of $100,000 or more are achievable for those working in senior roles, with advanced certifications, or in regions with higher wage standards, often involving overtime or hazardous environments. Entry-level welders typically earn less, but income can increase with experience and skill development.

Job description

Job Title: Weld Technician (3rd Shift)
Job Description

This role focuses on supporting and maintaining a high-volume automated welding operation on 3rd shift. You will work with a large fleet of MIG and spot welding robots, ensuring they run safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. The position requires strong hands-on technical skills in robot operation, welding automation, and pneumatic troubleshooting, along with the ability to work extended hours on a consistent basis.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, home, reset, and reteach weld robots to maintain consistent and accurate welding operations.
  • Work with MIG and spot welding robots across the facility, ensuring proper setup, operation, and performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with welding robots, including Fanuc, Motoman, and ABB systems, to minimize downtime.
  • Perform pneumatic troubleshooting on fixtures, including verifying air compressor operation, identifying and clearing blockages in lines, and replacing pneumatic hoses as needed.
  • Monitor sensors and related automation components to ensure proper function and resolve faults promptly.
  • Use personal tools and equipment from your own toolbox to perform maintenance, adjustments, and repairs on industrial machines and robotic welding cells.
  • Support maintenance activities on industrial machines, leveraging at least 5 years of maintenance experience to identify and correct mechanical and automation issues.
  • Work a consistent 3rd shift schedule from 10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m., with the ability to work mandated overtime of up to 12-hour days.
  • Participate in a Monday through Saturday schedule, including rotating Saturdays, typically working 2–3 Saturdays per month as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines in a stamping and welding assembly environment, including safe work practices around loud, dirty, and greasy areas.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure production targets and quality standards are met.
  • Document work performed, report issues, and communicate equipment status to supervisors and maintenance teams.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to home, reset, and reteach weld robots to maintain accurate and reliable welding operations.
  • Hands-on experience with welding robots, including Fanuc, Motoman, and ABB systems.
  • Proficiency in working with MIG and spot welding robots in an automated production environment.
  • Strong pneumatic troubleshooting skills for fixtures, including verifying air compressor function, identifying blockages in lines, and replacing pneumatic hoses.
  • At least 5 years of maintenance experience on industrial machines in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Ability to work 3rd shift from 10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. and consistently perform 12-hour days when mandated Monday through Saturday.
  • Capability to use and maintain a personal toolbox with the necessary tools for robot and equipment maintenance.
  • Comfort working in a stamping and welding assembly environment that can be loud, dirty, and greasy.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for robotics, welding, and automation systems.
  • Ability to monitor and troubleshoot sensors and automation components associated with welding fixtures and robots.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with high volumes of welding robots, including MIG and spot welding applications.
  • Familiarity with robotics and automation in a Tier 1 stamping and welding assembly environment.
  • Comfort working with underground conveyor systems that support stamping presses.
  • Experience in a fast-paced production environment where mandated overtime is common.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with maintenance teams, production staff, and leadership regarding equipment status and issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to equipment reliability and production quality.
Why Work Here?

The organization offers a range of benefits and incentives designed to reward hard work and support long-term career growth. Once hired, mandated overtime is compensated with a combination of daily overtime and double-time pay, providing strong earning potential. Employees receive weekly pay, along with an annual shoe allowance and a yearly credit for prescription safety glasses to help offset personal costs. The benefits package includes paid time off, sick days, holidays, and tuition reimbursement, supporting both work-life balance and ongoing education. The role also includes a scheduled hourly wage increase on a defined future date, reflecting a commitment to rewarding tenure and performance.

Work Environment

The work environment is a Tier 1 stamping and welding assembly facility that operates a large fleet of approximately 150 MIG and spot welding robots, including Fanuc, Motoman, and ABB systems. The position is on 3rd shift, with core hours from 10:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m., and the possibility of being mandated for up to 4 additional hours on any day of the week, resulting in frequent 12-hour days. The schedule typically runs Monday through Saturday, with rotating Saturdays and an expectation of working 2–3 Saturdays per month. The stamping area is loud, dirty, and greasy, and an underground conveyor runs beneath the stamping presses, contributing to a heavy industrial environment. Employees use their own toolbox and work around automated welding cells, stamping presses, conveyors, pneumatics, and sensors. Appropriate industrial attire and safety gear are required to work safely in this high-volume, heavy manufacturing setting.
